Taking us into real world gaming tests is Battlefield 3 and we start with 1920×1080 at maximum detail where the GTX 680 improves on the average framerate of an OC 580 by 17fps. It also increases the minimum framerate by 10fps. In the comparison with a standard 7970 it is also favourable with the new GeForce averaging nearly 15fps better, in fact it takes a heavily overclocked 7970 to compete at 1920×1080.

When we move to 5760×1080 things do change a little. The 7970 is able to pull ahead when running at its maximum clock and the GTX 680 then competes with the reference 7970, the NVIDIA card just pulling ahead.

Here are examples of how the game looks at our tested settings.
