Media Playback

One of the many tasks consumers regularly perform on their systems is watching streaming content such as video on YouTube. Of course like any other media source YouTube also allows us to watch high definition video and with the latest flash player our GPU can assist in processing the playback.

Another demanding tasks which can be performed in our browser, and the CPU assisted by our GPU, is HTML5 rendering; demanding pages which often feature video content and in our test multiple streams.

Looking first at the 4K playback test we see that the GTX 680 powered system is easily able to handle the playback of this high resolution content, never rising above 6% CPU use. There is no comparison with the 7970 included as when that card was installed we could not select the 4K stream. Moving to the HTML5 test we have very similar performance between the two products with plenty of CPU use free for other tasks.
