When open the M18x, like the rest of the product family, is a very impressive looking machine thanks, in part, to the single surface area screen which is a high gloss layer which runs out to each of the four edges on the top half of the system. It is even more impressive on this larger model that the others.
As is normal, a webcam and microphone are discretely positioned top and centre above the screen. The display used on this model is an 18" inch WLED model with resolution of 1920×1080.
It should come as no surprise that the Keyboard on the M18x features the same Star Trek style font which Alienware use on all of their systems and as with the other larger models it has a full num-pad on the right. The extra space also allows Alienware to add a set of macro keys down the left of the board which is ideal for gamers. The power button (an alien head) is located between the keyboard and screen and there is no touch sensitive panel on this model but the bar which runs from left to right at the top of the keyboard has buttons for media and device functionality.
Alienware use a Synaptics touchpad on the M18x and it has a lightly textured surface. Although not marked on the pad the right and bottom edges can be configured as scroll bars and two mouse buttons sit below this utilising a deep action with near silent operation.
