Issue with Cleaning
Hi all,
First, I purchased the DC.net software yesterday as I have been having issues with two hardware drivers and was hoping it would help. Here are the two issues: First, My System Specs are as follows: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Intel Core Duo E8400 @ 3.00 GHz nForce 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard 4 GB OCZ DDR3 Ram @ 1,333 MHz Nvidia GeForce 9800 GX2 (just one card) SoundBlaster X-FI ExtremeMusic Ultra X3 1,000 W PSU System was custom-built by me.
Here's my issue now: In windows control panel there are two identical nvidia control panels now. Both, when clicked on reference the same issue :
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies\ContextUIPoli cy\ value to (1) instead of (2) This allows me to use the old style control panel. However, I'm just not happy with this. I don't want to have to reinstall windows again and go through the entire motions (because it's just a bit too time consuming). Is there something I'm doing wrong here? Maybe a bad sequence of events that didn't occur in the correct order? Any suggestions? |

Update : I fixed my problems! Woot!
Okay, I spoke extensively with the nvidia direct support team (yes the Nvidia support team themselves) AND called my EVGA customer support team as well. It turns out that driver installations have to be done "while" in safe-mode or else they won't bypass native driver support that vista offers. This occurs even if you had update drivers turned off. So, here's how I fixed my issue for all of it. Normal Mode : Turned off automatic driver updates (set to "never" was confirmed) Uninstalled Nvidia motherboard drivers Uninstalled Nvidia display drivers Ran DC.net cleaner --Cleaned nvidia --Cleaned nvidia control panel Rebooted Safe Mode : Ran DC.net cleaner --Cleaned Nvidia --Cleaned Nvidia Control Panel Rebooted Safe Mode : Ran DC.net cleaner --Cleaned Nvidia --Cleaned Nvidia Control Panel Opened Regedit and removed the nvidia CPL registry keys Deleted the NVCP*.* files from windows\system32 Deleted any NVC file that housed a description of Nvidia Control Panel from windows\system32 Used CleanMyPc Registry cleaner and fixed all registry issues Rebooted Safe Mode : Installed Nvidia Motherboard Drivers Installed Nvidia Display Drivers 175.16 Rebooted Normal Mode : Display works 100% Control Panel works 100% Multiple Monitor Support works 100% Problems Fixed! |

Yes..
For vista : \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\NVControlPanel \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Installer Those 3 keys all reference the control panel, the control panel policies, and the installer for the display drivers only.
