kX DSP Modular Synth??
Would a reaktor style modular synth be possible in the dsp?
using existing plugins like wave generator as the oscillator source, but modifying it's pitch to be controlled by incoming midi, and other effects like filters, eq, delay etc. My idea would be to have it like a classic modular synth, with just an audio signal between modules, so that multiple cards can be chained together for an insanely large synth (where practical) two questions: 1) Is this possible? and 2) Is there interest in such an idea?

Yes that is possible (don't know about interest tho).
However you can't use existing plugins for the synth modules. (apart from fx like delay, reverb chorus ofcourse) All those synth modules have to be written. To name a few; VCO, VCF, VCA, ADSR (Envelope generator) etc. Basicly all parts of Asynth but then as seperate modules. Btw; There's more to it then a 'simple' midi->pitch wavegenerator. The firts plug would be some kind of CV plug that generates all the different Control Signals; Pitch, Gate & Trigger signals that steer the other modules just like a real modular synth. It also would use up more resources because of all those extra in/output registers per module. /Lex. |
