Smilie APS Compressor reviewed

I have made some changes to the APS compressor:

- There was a 16 dB error in the threshold control (in the dll calculations).

- There was two lines of code unused. Probably they were there for monitoring pourpouses, but dll doesn't uses them.

- An ouput for monitoring the gain of the compressor has been added (see picture).

Now that I understand the code, I can convert it easily in an expander/noise gate, and a secondary input for making 'Ducking/Cross Limiting' or 'De-essing' too.

Download the kxl here and tell me if it works as expected.

Good job eyagos!

>- There was a 16 dB error in the threshold control (in the dll calculations).

Hmm.. the values came directly from the APS plugin (GUI and GPRs). Where exacty was the error?

>- There was two lines of code unused. Probably they were there for monitoring pourpouses, but dll doesn't uses them.

Yes, the original APS comp had a meter, which was not implemented for kX.

>- An ouput for monitoring the gain of the compressor has been added (see picture).

Nice addition.

Regards,

/Hanz

ps. Might be a good idea to indicate which version your kXl works with, for those who are interested in trying it out (e.g. 3528, 3529, etc.)

Well, I'm not very sure. I just observed that a with a threshold of -20dB the APSCompressor start to compress at -4dB, and so on. Then I concluded that there was a "bias" problem. But don't know exactly where is it. Please, check it and tell me if my observations were correct.

That lines where exactly the same as used in peak plugin.

And about the version, I forgot to say that: Is compiled for 3529

i'd use it...

Hey eyagos,

i almost got crazy with the old APS compressor!

I'd almost started writing my own

But fortunately i searched the forum before actually starting...

I'd really like to use the corrected version of the plugin but when it tried, i was not able
to access the tweak-page.

Would U recompile for 3533?
Or tell me what to change to make it work for me?

thx.
dan

btw: I like all the comments U added to the sourcecode, but i have to invite a spanish-speaking
girlfriend to understand a word
