kxVST like E-Wire

Hi

I have some idea of VST plugin that routes vst input signal from DAW to selected kx ASIO outputs. The plugin also routes selected kx ASIO inputs to vst output for DAW.

Then it could be something like EMU's E-Wire module and the easier way to use kxDSP plugins in DAW projects.

What plugin are you speaking of? If you mean just Route DAW output into kX DSP via ASIO output, then feed the data into DSP plugin and route it back to ASIO recording ins to catch it in a DAW from ASIO in, then the whole thing is kX's standart functionality and there's no room for extra plugin in here (read: there's no need for any)...

Upd.: as I see the essence of E-Wire, this plugin just auto-adjusts the audio latency introduced by the use of external hardware through VST. Well, this could be subject of manual tuning...

Yes, you can say it. But now to insert kx plugin into a DAW track, it's necessary to route it to another DAW track.

Ah, you mean if we haven't got a lot of them...

I don't know if I understod this correctly, but I was thinking about a similar thing... I'm using Kristal, which doesen't have asio busses, only master. I'd would like to route signal to my external spring reverb unit from the certain channels, but right now I can't.

So I was wondering, would it be possible to code a vst insert plugin, from which you could route the signal to different kx asio busses, or am I missing something here?

Hmm... aren't it then just a software limitation ... why not use some software that allows this what you want? Maybe (as from free-/shareware);
- Cockos Reaper (shareware) - http://www.cockos.com/reaper/index.php
- Sony ACID Express (freeware) - http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/dow...p2.asp?DID=551
- etc..
lets you do it?

Perhaps, because the job's gotta be done in real-time which means NOW!, and it has to be done in a MIDI capable VST host...

What do you think about openning DSP window entering VST interface. Something like kXi plugin but there is only the way to open Automation window, no DSP window.

One more idea:
By this way for every instance of vst plugin, will be great to have multimple DSP windows, every with only two predefined (unremovable) asio inputs and outputs.

Then, after editing these vst dsp windows, standard kX DSP window will contain all connections together. Construcions like asio in -> plugins -> asio out.

There is no real-time ...

In addition for Sony ACID and Reaper, there are couple (freeware/shareware/donationware/low budged) MIDI capable ASIO/VST hosts as multitracking/sequencing software or plain host applications.

energyXT (low budged)
Mutools Luna Free (freeware)
Plogue Bidule (commercial)
ART Teknika Console (comercial)

Reaper, which I mentioned earlier, do have a "ReaRoute ASIO" driver you perhaps can use for more complicated routings between multiple recording software.

Also, there is a VST plugin made by Voxengo that lets to output directly through MME device ... it's working otherwise well but, there are some latency w/ SB cards because of poor drivers (maybe kX has better MME drivers than Creative ... never tried this) ... plug-in is called as "Recorder" (IIRC).
Also, when I did ask energyXT developers for to prepare I/O plugins for their energyXT products, they replied that the new energyXT 2 has this feature added (you can set/use I/Os from multiple cards then in same project simultaenously by loading another "Master input/output" component). energyXT 2 comes out 2007 (it's in its 1st beta testing process atm)).

As Kristal is audio capable software only, w/ it (and any other non-MIDI software) you can use Hermann Seib's "VSTHost" + "Legree" plugin combination for to add MIDI functionality (well, recording the output only) ... it's "latency free" link from VSTHost to any VST capable recording software through VST plug-in
--> run VSTHost in slavery mode
--> load the Legree VST into your recording software
--> set up a synth(s) + effect(s) 'performance' in VSTHost
--> record (w/ Kristal, etc.) w/o additional latency

- http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm

NOTE: It's possible that you don't get everything working w/ kX as it works w/ Creative ASIO drivers because of the kX ASIO is not multiclient driver (yet?).
