Complicated question..

Alright, so heres the question and my goals. I am trying to make a simple dps setup that will allow me to do these things, as I am a total noob even after reading everything I could google and the help files...

Ventrilo is a voice communication program.

Goal: Be able to run 1 Ventrilo application that broadcasts mp3s off my hdd, Be able to run a separate Ventrilo that allows me to hear people talking (It needs to output to the rear channel, and it can't output to the same place as the mp3s playing off the harddrive. I don't want them to mix otherwise when people talk they will hear themselves, and the second app. would need input from my microphone.

I can't really figure out that kx router and how the hardware decides where to route the sound to what fxbus. I have read the kxrouter help. Anyone have any other guides that could help or an idea how to set this up would be great.

You cannot do that as Windows (MME) cannot record 2 different audio sources (MIC and MP3's) independently of each other at the same time.

Aside from the above, routing different signals to different speakers is fairly easy. Under the default kX Router and Windows config:

MP3 playback would use kX Wave 0/1 (unless program is configured to use different wave device) which uses FxBus 0/1 and is routed to the front speakers.
Kx Wave 4/5 uses FxBus 4/5 and is routed to the Front speakers.
kX Wave 6/7 uses FxBus 6/7 and is routed to the Rear speakers.
kX Wave 8/9 uses FxBus 8/9 and is routed to the Center/LFE speakers.

The above routing can be changed via kX Router or by using a custom DSP config.

Ah I figured as much with MME. Was always worth a shot. I used to do it with 2 soundcards easily, but one of my cards stopped working after I moved.

One thing that might work, is to use kX to record the MIC for Ventrilo and route audio to the speakers, and use a program like Virtual Audio Cable for routing MP3 audio to Ventrilo.

BTW: I do not know anything about Virtual Audio Cable other than the description on it's web page, but it sounds like it (or a similar program) might work.
