Problems with in-game sound

My problems before installing Kx-drivers:

1. Severe FPS drag in games like battlefield 1942, it seems a lag which returns each second.
2. Crackling sound.

then i installed the drivers and rebooted my system, and tried battlefield and the game ran absolutly PERFECT, 56 fps on average on max-det with full sound, then i turned on my comp this afternoon to play Battlefield and much 2 my amaze my problems are the same again! now what did i do wrong??

My specs:

Gigabyte 7ZX-H
AMD XP 2000+
768 SDRAM
GeForce 2 GTS/PRO 64 DRR-RAM
SB-Live! 5.1 Platinum
Pioneer DVD
Western Digital 60 GB 7200 RPM
