Simple DSP for stereomix recording

HI,
So far I've set up a very simple DSP for listening to a set of stereo speakers.
I used the PROFX drivers and wired FXBUS 0/1 > 10 band EQ > k1lt rear speakers.

Now, how would I go about recording What You Hear with this setup. Soundcard is a CT4760 and I use Audacity to record whats coming through the speakers.

Connect 10BandEQ to the WinMM Recording pins of k1lt too.

Thanks Russ. I assume then to activate 4.1 sound I would just have to connect to the front speaker outputs on kxlt?

Also since I don't use any of the the other inputs on the card except except Line-in and Mic-in I'd like to only wire those up. I would only use the Line-in for recording and the Mic just for apps like Teamspeak.

How would I set these up using the ProFX drivers? I assume I could either use a separate src for each one then run lines to the front and rear speakers? Or could I just use the AC97 ProFX plugin and switch on the fly?

I want to be able to listen to what I'm recording.

Ok I added MX6 to make it easier to wire up. I hooked the rec_l and rec_r to WinMM. At this point its working just like it was without the mixer. I added another src and plugged the mic in. I then hooked the src to the next 2 inputs on the mixer. I tried every input offered in the dropdown menu and never got a response in the mixer. =/

You need to use the ProFX ADC plug-in for AC97 Mic or Line inputs.

Right, for MIC and Line In, do as peate said.

For 4.1, it depends on how you want it to work... If you want the rears to be just a copy of the fronts, then you could just connect the same signal to both front and rear, but if you want a different up mixing scheme (or down mixing of 5.1, etc), then you might want to use a plugin like Surrounder+ (as well as the FxBus numbers for the other channels).

Thanks guys. I added the surrounder plugin and it works like a charm

Still have a couple of questions. After I added the surrounder plugin I had to move the EQ between FXBus and MX6. I dont want to necessarily record with those effects so.......When I added the ProFX:ADC and connected it to the mixer It is independant of the EQ right?

Concerning the ADC plugin. I was able to get my Mic working no problems but when I switched my Mic over to the line-in to test I got no response. Does the line-in have to have some kinda power source to register input or should I have gotten something just using the Mic?

One last thing. Using this setup how do I keep my Mic from playing back on the speakers but still use it in teamspeak?

LOL thanks for the help guys,I know these are Noob questions but I just about got it.

It depends on which MX6 output you have it routed to, and which output the EQ is connected to. Assuming EQ is connected to MAIN, and ADC is routed only to RECORD, then the EQ will not be applied to MIC, etc (or anything on the Recording side) If something is routed to both (MAIN and Record), with EQ on MAIN, then you will hear EQ in speakers but EQ will not be recorded.

Yes, microphones typically need an amp, and Line In expects levels to be at Line level. You could connect the headphone out jack of some portable audio player to Line In to test (if you have nothing else).

1) Make sure the MIC slider on the right hand side of ADC's GUI is muted.
2) Make sure that the MX6 input that ADC is connected to is not enabled for MAIN.

Cool, everything works just as suggested. I hav'nt actually tested line-in yet but I can see that will be a simple matter when and if I need to use it. One thing you said Russ I need clarification.

I actually had problems using surrounder+ but just normal surrounder worked as expected. I have on the way as I type this a set of Logitech 5500's. I will eventually buy a Auzentech or HTOmega soundcard, but in the meantime I'd like to get these working with the Live!. By your statement above, it makes me think that I have to use more than FXBus 0/1 to accomplish this.

I'm also wondering about routing. Can you make for instance the Mic and Line-in to become outputs for LFE and Side Surround. Can all this be done using FXBus 0/1 or do i have to use a mix of busses?

2D sound uses FxBus 0/1.
MIDI (kX Synths) uses FxBus 2/3.
3D Sound (i.e. games, etc) uses FxBus 4/5 (front), 6/7 (rear) and 8/9 (Center/LFE), so if you want more than 2.0 (or 2.0 up-mixed to something else), then you would want the other FxBus channels too (i.e. this is why Surrounder has a bunch of inputs).

See the kX Router section in kX Help for more info...

No.

BTW: What was the problem that you had with Surrounder+?

This is not possible. Physical inputs will ever be inputs and physical outs are outs all the time. Except you want to solder around

Ok that simplifies things alot.

Concerning surrounder+. Well I had it wired the same way as I do surrounder now, but I couldnt get output from the front connection. Rear and front are swapped.

Even if you could change an input to an output, you do not have extra DAC's to be able to derive other channels (so the best you could get is a copy of one of the existing channels).

Hmm, I am not sure why that would be (assuming that you had both connected the same way, and are using the same settings). Can you try again, and confirm this?

BTW: Front and rear swapping only applies when you are using epilog (it is done in epilog). k1lt uses it own ordering based on what the you tell it to use. If you have your front and rear speakers physically swapped, then you should make sure that Surrounder's front is connect to k1lt's rear, etc.

What version of kX are you using?

I *think* maybe I was using 3537 at the time and I upgraded to 3539. At any rate I just swapped surrounder+ in and its working now. Whats the difference between the 2 surrounders?

OK. I never used 3537, so I am not sure about any differences between Surrounder in 3537/3539 (but I do not think there is much difference, if any).
