Swapping output to an input with KX

First post, but I've been reading a ton first.

I have a ZS2 NB (pcmcia) version running the 3538j-only version that works on it.

Here is my dilemma. I have an XM unit with optical output that gets routed right to the input no problem. I also have a HD radio unit that has analog output that I need to get run into the soundcard. The problem is that there is just one plug for digital or analog in and one plug for digital or analog out. I don't need the out (it's the headphone jack, but this setup won't ever have headphones to it). I was wondering if it was possible to "rewire" the DSP in kx to use the headphone output as an analog input?

Or in theory could it be possible to somehow hook up the digital and analog inputs at the same time. It would make me a little nervous, but if this is the only way, I could open up the card and solder my own analog connector to the leads on the input. This way I could have a way to physically plug in both inputs.

Thanks in advance guys for everything you've done for us by creating KX.

EDIT: I don't know if this was clear or not, but I will never have a need to run both inputs at the same time. I'm not trying to mix signals or record anything. Just need to be able to swap between the two without having to physically swap the inputs.

I would think that a stereo splitter cable 1/8" (3.5mm) would do the job:

One end - 2 stereo female connectors
Other end - stereo male connector

Something similar to the discontinued product shown here:
Stereo Y Splitter Cable (standard 3.5 mm/1.8 - Proporta

I think you're missing the point. One input is toslink, and one is analog.

Russ is just super!Russ is just super!Russ is just super!Russ is just super!Russ is just super!Russ is just super!

kX cannot make an output an intput (and vice-versa).

I do not really see any workaround... The jack must have some detection mechanism (maybe the ground) to detect whether the input is optical or analog, and as such, I imagine that if you try to solder something together, you will break the detection stuff such that maybe optical will no longer work (i.e the detection mechanism always thinks that it is connected via analog connection, etc). I do not know, just a guess...

Now that you mention it, yeah I imagine the detection mechanism would be an issue.

I guess I'm down to my two other options.

Is it possible to enable the integrated sound on the computer along with the the SB card? This is on a laptop where I could use a line in for the analog input if I could find a way to enable both.

I do not see why that would not be possible. It is *usually* not a problem with PC's, and I do not know why it should be different for laptops. I guess you can only try it and see.

I've just never had a need to try something like this, so I'm not entirely sure how to do it. I'll poke around later tonight to see if I can do it (running xp pro).

Even with using both cards, you still have to swap between them in software, and you still will have to swap connections to the speakers, so you are not really gaining a whole lot using both cards.

<edit>
Your best bet is probably to use some kind of selector switch (something like this (maybe you can find something similar (for a lower price) that does not include the stuff that you do not need (video, etc)).

<edit2>
Here
is another one.

I need to check in with the mp3car guys, but I may be able to have it written into the front end that I'll be using in my car to switch the audio sources. I could just enable both of them actually control the devices to only be on when they are supposed to be, but the radio unit has a slight start up time that I'd like to avoid.

Whatever I do, it needs to do it on it's own. This is for a carpc that will be run with a touchscreen for the most part.
