EQ for SPDIF
I have Audigy card. Is it possible to input to DSP any EQ for SPDIF out mode?.
I have coax cable from card (mono to RCA) to z-5500 Logitech and turned to SPDIF mode in Windvd and no idea how to EQ sound. Regs Rostek |

Re: EQ for SPDIF
if you use only *1 cable* to connect sound card to speakers (as I *think* you stated), you should have used 'AC3 pass thru' mode of the sound card for 'true digital surround' - which means it 'bypasses' processing by the DSP - and no DSP means no DSP based EQ. So the quick answer is 'you can not add EQ with kX DSP'.
Add EQ in Win DVD (if it has it) - or adjust the speaker system (if it has it). Otherwise - you need to use 3 cables (Spdif or analog stereo) between sound card and speaker system. This is probably why you were not able to figure this out on your own. |

Re: EQ for SPDIF
AFAIK the WinDVD-SPDIF-Mode bypasses the DSP completely, since the output is an AC3-stream, so it´s not possible to insert any FX. Please correct me if I´m wrong.
Edit: Aahh - MD6 was faster...

Re: EQ for SPDIF
There is another option for you, but it will require more processing, and result in some recompression. Check into 'redocnexk'. It allows you to take a multichannel audio source going to the card, route it to ASIO, then it gets encoded to AC3, and sent out the cards digital output. This would allow you to do any processing to the audio you like in kx, before it goes to ASIO, and redocnexk will turn it back into AC3 for output to your speakers. To do this, you ahve to select 6-channel as your sound format in WinDVD.
The other advantage of this, is it will work with ANY multichannel sound program you might have, including 3D sound games. |

Re: EQ for SPDIF
Thanks for all for advises.
Due to CraziFuzzy description I understand that the "process" will be 1. DVD software player set to 6 channel "analog" speakers setup 2. Surounder (5.1) 3. Processing channels by timbre , equalizer and maybe other 4. connect outputs to asio 0/1.../5 5. and 'redocnexk' proper configuration 6. kx mixer - digital output on and ac3 passtrough - spdif 0. am i right ...? You can do one or the other - A) AC3 passthrough and have no kX DSP processing possible or B) you use redocne to re-encode to AC3 after processing in kX DSP and sending relevant channels to the ASIO inputs (as redocne requires). But your DVD player, when set to analog speakers will probably not try to use ac3 pass thru, so it probably wont matter if that is enabled or not, but in case you dont get redocne working, try turning that off - I dont recall from memory how kX should be configed for redocne to work - follow its instructions. |

An added feature of REDOCNEXK is that it can actually send the AC3 out a different AC3 passthrough capable sound card. I use this for games on my HTPC setup, as I have the games use directsound 3d, and get the 6 channel surround sound from that, use redocnekx to encode it to ac3, and then have teh ac3 output from a cheap USB sound card thatis physically located at the tv (the PC is actually in another room about 50 feet away). This way, the only cables i have running from the PC to the TV is an HDMI cable, and active USB extension. |
