Auto-Mute?

I'm looking to use kx in my carpc, and I'm looking for an auto-mute feature. Basically, I'd like a DSP effect that will mute (or, ideally, cut back) the main signal, when there is audio on a second input. This is to be used with my navigation prompts. I am basically looking to turn down/mute the front speakers when the navigation voice is speaking.

Adjustments I can forsee this having would be a threshold level, which controls how strong the signal on the Override inputs would need to be to trigger the muting, attack and release times which would control the delay time for triggering/releasing the attenuation, and an attenuation amount that would control how much the main in is knocked down when activated. Does something like this exist? I can see some use of this in studio use as well, to allow the board to talk to the headphone outs. I know some headphone amps have this type of feature built in.

Re: Auto-Mute?

Use a compressor with side chain.

i.e.
APS Compressor+ or Dynamics Processor

Connect the main signal to the normal inputs, and the trigger signal to the side chain inputs. Make sure that side chain is enabled in the plugin GUI. The threshold and ratio settings determine how much the signal is attenuated.

Note: If you use the APS Compressor+, place an x4 plugin between the source audio and the side chain inputs.

Re: Auto-Mute?

Yeah, as you can tell, i hadn't actually gone in and tried the setup yet (still building the system).. a compressor is pretty much the right tool for the job, just wasn't sure if any of them had side-chain inputs.. thanks though, i look forward to implementing it!
