I want an effects box...

So my line of thought is, well, the line-input could be driven by the aux sends of my mixer...

and, I could have one side (left) be one effect and one side (right) be another... since the aux sends from the mixer are mono, there's no point trying to drive an effect in stereo!

So I went into kX DSP and drew up this little diagram:

http://alias.djfly.org/routing.jpg

So, the left side feeds reverb, and the right side feeds the other effect... chorus I think. (I'm doing the same thing on two cards but with different effects so, um, yeah.)

However, when I try to use it, it doesn't work. I play a sound in the mixer (on an external keyboard/synth) and turn up the aux send, and I hear the signal again, but not where I expected! Instead of playing on the center/sub output, the line-level signal is recreated at the same place as wave 6/7, and as I look at my diagram, I find myself scratching my head at how it got there!

As far as I can see, there *shouldn't* be any way for the signals coming into the soundcard line input to get to the rear output, where they are coming out, and they *should* be playing effects and the effects *should* be appearing at the orange/yellow output for my consumption, but alas... nothing!

I've checked the mixer controls, and the line-input is selected in the AC97 panel, it's un-muted and turned up to 0, and in the recording source, AC97 is unmuted and turned up all the way... what else could I have done wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help...

E.g. you are unmuted and moved-up Line-In fader on the AC97 page, right?

*checks mixer panel*

Aye, the correct things are unmuted and turned on.

Upon digging further, I find that perhaps the problem lies elsewhere--though I have been routing effects out the center and subwoofer outputs on the card, and the DSP page isn't complaining, and I've got the card set up as "5.1 surround" in the multimedia control panel applet, there are no center/LFE controls in the mixer; it's as if they don't exist. This strikes me as being very odd since the card has the yellow jack for them...

Any other ideas?

PS - I'm not in as urgent need of it now; I have two Live!'s in my computer (different revisions and ID's) and the other one is processing effects at present. Though it would be cool to have 4 effects going simultaneously, I only need 2 just now. :-)

Thanks for your help.

i'm asking because that's it. This is your mistake.
You should NOT touch faders on ac97 page.
You should only choose source in the "source" combo and adjust "AC97" fader on "Ins'n'Outs" page...
The faders of AC97 page are for monitoring of Ac97 inputs through AC97 output only. E.g when you unmute them sound is immidiatelly sent to that analog output you've called "the same place as wave 6/7"
(when "swap front/rear" is on)...
