Need Some DSP help, (Running windows 7 64)
Hey guys,
First off I am running Windows 7 64 bit, with the latest 3550 Version 5.10 KX Driver . I have an audigy 4 7.1 sound card. I know there are still pending issues with Vista and windows 7, so please forgive me. Right now I am using 2/3 for My music through VLC player, which is setup up Strickly for outputting to 2/3. 4/5 is then being used for fronts for everything else. Eveything is working fine except for the multi channel stuff like gaming. Because of the known issue with the Speaker test, I am using a WMV file for testing the multichannel, going through Windows media player. Now no matter what I do, even using a peak meter on FX bus 0/1 or 6/7 I am not getting anything on those outputs. When I try and test the multi channel the rear speaker test are comming through my front speakers. Its seems like its always in a 2 channel mode, so the only choice I seem to have is to force a copy of my front to my rear speaker, I can`t seem to get sperate channels. I know there are issues with Vista and Windows 7 but any help is greatly apreciated just the sane. Thanks, soundguy |

For multichannel stuff, make sure that your playback device is Master Mixer.
With the above, front should use FxBus 2/3, rear - 4/5, center/LFE - 6/7. Also make sure that kxmixer's swap front and rear option matches how you speakers are connected to the sound card. |

Re: Need Some DSP help, (Running windows 7 64)
Hey thanks for the reply,
I know thats the way youre suppose to do it, but even under the control pannel, as it goes through the channels of audio, whats ever I selected for the deafault, that meter beside the selected outputs, show every single audio channel, including sub out and rears. I understand the stereo thing, it should show, audio being sent to it twice, once for the left once for the right, but when it comes to the rears it should move down to output 4/5 like you say and it doesent. Maybe you can point me to a better file for testing multi channel audio other than KX's speaker test, to make sure I am not chasing my own tail. Thanks again, soundguy_99 |

Re: Need Some DSP help, (Running windows 7 64)
So I apologize,
I reinitialized the dsp, with the Master Mix selected, and now its working. I am positive I tried it before and it wasent. My question is now, what are the essentials in re creating the surround, in my other DSP template. I assuming that I don`t have seperate Center/LFE Connections on my sound system, I can use those outputs for my music, setup. Thanks again, Soundguy |

It is hard to say as I am not sure what you custom config looks like, nor what your specific needs are.
It is tough to offer one config that will work for you under both cases (music and multichannel), as one of the busses (e.g. FxBus 6/7 in your above scenario) will be shared by both, and (it seems) you want to use different routing for your music (i.e. it sounds like you want to send your music to a different set of speakers? ...even if your speaker system does not have seperate Center/LFE connections, those channels are still sent to the DSP). |

Re: Need Some DSP help, (Running windows 7 64)
Hey Russ,
I think I have this worked out and I apologize for my ignorance. What I ended up doing is the default setup 2/3 isn`t being used for the surround, so what I have done, is add a Xrouting and Surounder to my DSP map. I then have most of what you would expect, everything coming from the FX bus through the Xrouting to the surrounder, eventually to the K2T. So it outputs surround. On the music side of things, I took the 2/3 channels since their not being used as far as I know, routed them through a crossover and bunch of LP/HP and Peaking EQ filters, for, my music, and then remix them down with my surround outputs eventually outputting at the K2T. Something I couldn`t do with my old 10K1 Chip (not enough registers). I then have my VLC player exclusively play through outputs 2/3 as well as my VC with only an additonal 2/3 source feed so my VC is above my Surround while I do gaming. Something of note, though, I found that by trying to weak the Gain plugin in the basic effects window, crashed my system and causes my memory usage to go to 100 percent. I am running window 7 64bit, so I don`t know if its a known issue or not. I try this a bit more, and see how it goes. Thanks again, soundguy |

Re: Need Some DSP help, (Running windows 7 64)
Hmm, 2/3 should be the the front channels (with multichannel sources), but maybe something is off in the x64 versions of kX. I seem to recall someone posting a screenshot of the default DSP config under x64 and it was using FxBus instead of FxBusX (should be FxBusX with 10k2 models), so maybe something is different under x64 (or maybe a bug).
Regarding the gain plugin, other people have reported the same problem with some other plugins with the x64 version of kX (e.g. FxMix/FxMix2), so there is probably some x64 porting issue with some of the plugins. |
