Is "tubesound" a subtle effect, or am I doing something wrong?

I am trying to figure out how to properly use the effect "tubesound." Right now I have it hooked up between the 0 and 1 outputs of FXbus and the WaveL and WaveR inputs of xrouting. I am not noticing any obvious effects this way.

OK, I tried a semi-quiet MP3, and I noticed a slight roll-off of high frequencies and presence. I read that this effect was designed to simulate a pentode preamp tube, correct? If I "stacked" this plugin 2 or 3 times, would I get a more "tubey" sound, or would the gain cascade into each virtual tube?

That effect is supposed to help you simultate analog "tape" distortion (as far as I remember), so that's why it's so subtle. Some people do stack them together to get more distortion. If you search the forum for tube sound or tubesound you'll find more info...
