Custom Fxbus, Prolog, Epilog for Musicians

Custom Fxbus, Prolog and Epilog for Musicians

In order to save precious dsp resources and in search for easier/faster
ways to re-route stuff I use my own 'custom' I/O dsp plugins to replace Fxbus, Prolog and Epilog.
(Like most musicians I never use xRouting, so that's one "resource eater" less to deal with)

Src
http://members.home.nl/nahutec/kxplugins/src.jpg
I combined Fxbus and Prolog into 'Src'(Source) since, from a user point of view, that is
were sound 'comes/originates' from. All sound sources from;
- every AC97 analog input,
- every Digital input,
- every Fxbus nr,
are direct selectable without having to re-route and going to xxx places.
One instance of 'Scr' uses 2 GPRs, and 2 Instr.
You can use multiple instances to serve your needs.
All 'kX Router' settings remain.
*Note:
(Src's principle shows a possability to develop Mixer strips etc.)

Eplg
http://members.home.nl/nahutec/kxplugins/eplg.jpg
I have choosen an 8-channel (is 4-stereo) topology for the 'Eplg',
which is enough for most needs and only uses 9 GPRs and 16 Instr.
But you can use multiple instances to serve your needs and still save GPRs.
You can route(assign) each of these 4 stereo "channels" to every thinkable output/destination
'on the fly' without the hazzle of re-routing/re-swapping etc.

For newbies;
By using such plugins you will (of course) loose practicly all slider functions of the 'kX Mixer'.
This is normal and even desirable for most (serious) musician purposes.
Even the 'dreaded' 'Swap rear/front' funtion is "killed".
"What you see is what you route", simply select 'Analog Rear' if you want sound to get there
without having to open 'kMixer->Master->Toggle swap rear'.

I'm very reluctant to release these plugins. (for several good reasons)
So I decided to post this info first and just see what comes.

If hardly anyone replies it's realy fine with me.
(saves me a lot of work to develop it into 'Finals')

/LeMury

P.S.
These presented plugins are NOT meant as replacements for the included FXbus, Prolog and Epilog!
This post is (probably) for musicians only..

LeMury, those are really great! I wasn't expecting something like that! Great job! I'd really like to have those. And, by the way, I've got an Audigy 1 now running in my system, so I'll be able to really fill it up with effects! By the way, an interface just like that which allowed the user to select the effect he wanted, on the fly, would take your concept even further. But I don't know if this is even possible. Would be nice though! Please?

Wow that looks great - especially for those of us who aren't scared of the DSP. I'd certainly use something like this in my DSP! It looks more intuative than the existing setup,

Bring'em on!

Seems a huge waste having such a big prolog and only using the AC97...

Forgive me for my dumbness, but does using less registers mean i can load more effect plugins or is that something different?

It's a great development. I use another "pro" soundcard for asio and use a couple of SBlives
for realtime (zero latency) DSP and soundfonts. VST technology is great but you can't beat sample accurate effects for recording/monitoring. This is why KX is so important for musicians, I feel.
Having a DSP page stripped down with just the signal path I'm using is ideal.
keep up the good work!

Hmmm.. so I'm supposed to write for days programming stuff,
while ~170 out of ~180 ppl are to lame to even write a simple 1 line reply!
Swell..

Thanks guys, but 10 replies is to few.
Let's wait some more.

I second MaxB's words
All I can say (I'm the mod in another forum-a bit of experiences)-it is a problem active versus passive users.
Nothing new mate.

What you have suggested is making music with the great kX simpler.
With less focus on technical issues.
I think it can make interest wider for all those people who didn't find how kX can be useful.

I'm an advanced computer user (not advancet musican) but kX still is a bit complicated for me yet-it needs to try, read and try again.
What a lot of people needs is simplicity.

You can compare it to the PC world: it started from complicated DOS and LATER the whole direction was for making it more friendly.
And this was the reason to make PC so popular.

Well to keep things short-c'mon, don't wait please

Yes, but if that is tru it means that there aren't many users (quantity) willing to check this out and contribute, but the ones which exist are really going for it (quality). Well, don't blame me for trying to make your mind!!! hehe

Ok, that's good enough for me.

Definitely
It is also very typical for people who whave nothing to say and want to increase a post counter to give responses like "Thanx", "fine", "I don't know" etc.
Don't bother lamers

BTW-few month ago I've seen in the newsgroup owned by Microsoft a poll about new product
I don't remember exactly but I've seen about 100 answers
For 100 millions od MS users it gives US a better ratio, right?

Will these work in conjunction with your MX6 pluggin as well LeMury? All it's going to be great to be able to just have a plug and go for external instruments. Specialy with guitars and keyboards. Heck keep these kinds of plug-ins going and we wont need to have the DSP resizeable.

I use an Audigy 1 by the way.

great plug-ins as always

I thought I was just being ironic, but what the heck: I have multicard PC which includes SB0060 (kX) plus CT4760 (creative). I will ditch the creative drivers on the second card just as soon as SF handling improves some more.
cheers
