DSP Setup for beginners

I've started to play with kX few days ago and all I wanna say is-marvelous.
Great thx for the authors.

The only problem is its complication for beginners.
I've read almost all posts here and gotta say a lot of questions are based on little understanding the whole subject.

Probably I have found a solution which makes this great tool easier for beginners as its complex is a reason why some beginners give up and return to CL drivers what seems to be stupid for all who crossed the line:beginner/advanced.

The solution is simple: few templates (DSP Setups) for typical situations.
Included kxdefault.kx shows kX power but is definitely to complex.
Well, let's return to the school time: it started from the basics.
Later such small skills was developed step by step.
I've read almost all posts here, help files and my knowledge is a bit bigger then yesterday but when i try to change DSP settings many questions have just come and still no expected results because all I do is modifications of kxdefault.kx settings.

Thx to Gonzalo who has shared his settings an understanding is better but you gurus gotta realize it is also too complicated for the first step.

All I'm gonna suggest is creation by advanced people here VERY basic settings which can be developed to fill user's purposes.
It is much easier then trying to modify complicated diagram.
It can imply much bigger interest in this great tool and faster learning by newbies who can later share experiences with present gurus.

Sorry for the long explanations here but I'd like to be well understood.

So back to the idea-simple settings.
I give an example which can cover 50% new people here.

Cubase, few audio tracks, few MIDI tracks, playing with external MIDI keybord using soundfonts and VSTi plus an external audio source.

Well I know now how big pain for beginner can be creation such settings in the correct way.

Great thanx for reading

Aykroyd,

I see where you're coming from, former (and still a little!)confused newbie here

I searched this forum high and low for some kx DSP settings just to get me going but never found much, apart from Gonzo's gr8 page.

I think the problem with templates is that what works for one user may not work for another, due to the fact that each users setup may vary slighty from another....

example: Simple Mic going through a compressor, then reverb, straight out the front speakers....

I personally plug a microphone into a mixer which is pluggged into the line in at the rear of the card. Someone else may plug a mixer into the line-in on the live drive, others may use the Mic jack of the livedrive......3 different settings files for the one simple setup.

I do think a good idea would be a page, or forum, where users can upload snapshots of their DSP screens along with the associated .kx files and a brief description of their system etc. to make sort of a database of user settings that new users can look through for ideas/inspiration.

What do ya think guys?

Yeah, it is obvious users needs are different.
But I mean basic-without effects.
Few goals-like the one I've described above for example.

It is very useful-please consider almost every software in which it can be used-has got it.

Examples? OK

-MS Word-basic starting template + a library of advanced ones.
-MS Excel, MS Power Point
-Almost every email client (Outlook,The Bat, Eudora,Pegasus,Netscape)
-Almost every music software (Cubase,Cakewalk, ....)
-HTML editors
-etc.,etc.,etc.

Producers know users' preferences are different but they ALSO know it is much easier to start with any set parameters for a typical goal (preferences-templates typicaly have names as a description of its purposes) and rebuild them to fit user's needs.
Well, this idea works since years, so why do not implement it here?

Do you remember guys your first "meeting" with MS Word?
So much things, buttons, etc. it was difficult to understand at the first sight.
But after working with it and getting a bit of experiences-piece of cake.
One of the basic reason is: the basic template is simple and if somebody needs something another-there is a collection (library) of templates which can be modified.
Easier then building from scratch, isn't it?
Whatever bad can be said about MS it needs to be considered also they are using really "user friendly" idea in their software.

So why do not follow such method?

I think using HTML would be a good idea. It can be viewed almost everywhere.
