DSP enhancment suggestions..

I'm a n00b, so forgive me if these have already been mentioned. I only installed kX one and a half-days ago and I'm already hooked! Thank you so much!

In the day or so I've been learning the DSP, I've already made myself this minimalist musician setup. Src2 is the fxbus 0/1. Src6 is LineIn, and Src4 is fxbus 2/3 (synth if I remember correctly). As soon as I start working on music again I'm bound to shift things around and add some effects. I don't really mind that all the mixer faders vanished, I intend on using the DSP far more when it'll come to seting up recording and playback sessions! I just have a simple 2.1 setup (stereo speakers and a sub), the LineIn (and possibly mic in the future), and I don't even use MIDI. I guess this'll do for now.

Here are a few things I thought might be useful in future versions of the DSP. Forgive me if they already exist.

-Rectangular selection, or shift-click for selecting multiple DSP modules to be moved around.
-Switchboard, sort of like a railway one. For stereo/mono streams, where it can be easily toggled between multiple outputs.
-Probably the least doable: Actual sliders/knobs on the DSP effects themselves! Without needing to double-click/tweak. The plugin developper could choose which slider would be visible in the small rectangular box. It could promote the idea of using the DSP as an effects rack as well.

Some suggestions

Actually I've been using the software for more than a year now. I actually plan on writing a guide for educators on teaching DSP and MIDI using the SoundBlaster/Kxprojecto combo ;-)

I was a member of Dash Synthesis During 2001 and 2002, we sold Reaktor ensembles at that time. Actually, I am a Native Instruments representative. Next week, i will publish the first version of a 1/3 Octave eq at my site, www.musicaenbits.tk (in spanish, sorry!!)

But actually I am a musician.

I know Kx is a wonderful project to teach audio for countries like mine, that's why i think it should be even more useful. here is a list of tips for the DSP:

Allow tagging for the user: really nice if you could tag one of those lovely GainX modules that Max M. has written, those which show the control on the DSP itself ;-) (just like you do in Reason)

Allow minimize to tray (per window). I keep one of those PeakX modules hanging around the screen along with winamp (i wish these modules could have resize and opacity levels per window too (that would be a dream come true...)

Back on the DSP, the cables could have a way to snap to the closest cable, controlled with a variable in pixels. that would be great. you could implement an easy way to select multiple modules by holding the ctrl key while you select multiple modules. then move them altogether.

among other great features for the windows would be to have a user accesible menu to range (mostly for the peax module), along with a size and orientarion selection windows.

the really big thing, which i don't know if the Kx chip is able to process, is the same Reaktor hierarchy structure. That could easily be achived by creating a module that can group several modules together. there would have to be additional I/O modules so you can se inputs and outputs on the nexthierarchy level.

among other things some basic DSP modules could be built based on the classic modular synths Moog constructed during the 60s. these would be enough to teach a whole career about Synthesis, MIDI, sampling and DSP with a low budget tool. GREAT!

if i am able to help in some way, i would love to. i will be writing something to put on .com's frontpage soon :-)

cheers

BiCho

the new 3538 release will have certain improvements of the kX DSP applet

>> Probably the least doable: Actual sliders/knobs on the DSP effects themselves!

this is already possible in the present kX API specification -- however, there's only one effect supporting this feature -- the 'gain' bundled with the UFX package
I'm unsure whether this feature can be added without re-writing certain parts of the existing effects

modular effects is a 'work in progress' (perhaps, a term 'container' will be used)

the DSP-based synth feature is also a 'work in progress' -- this will be implemented via kX Automation

Wink thanks!

it feels great to help.

i love this software. actually i've been using it for more than a year, and now i feel able to develop a course based on it ( i'm an audio software independent teacher)

i will post at this thread the modules i feel should be developed first. i know its a hard work and i'm not a coder, although i know plenty of modular synthesis.

again, your job has been fantastic.

i LOVE the uniform plugins, they are essential tools

i happen to own one of those strange sb0060 models that don't work quite well. from version 3534 (not quite sure about this one) to 3536, the green output simply didn't work. i could make a whole report on the card if you wish to, Eugene!

keep up the great work!!

are you sure you've configured the speakers properly?

yes, quite sure. i have both outputs connected to a mixer, and swapping simply swapped the silent channel on the mixer. since version 3537 is working smooooth.. ;-)

and what about "surrounder preset"? did you set it to "4.1" or "5.1"?

actually, i just reinstalled version 3534 and the speaker test works fine after changing the surround system to 5.1 and copy. by the way, is there a way the surrounder can use the subwoofer output as a normal one? i get no sound through it or just the low frequencies...
