Direct X Dsp? possible?
Hi, I am new to the Forum and New to the kX Drivers. I have to Say Though I am impressed and They haven't even been installed yet. I was just curious about something, I can see that the kX drivers have DSP and I can write More if I want.....I recently Purchased thee Waves Gold Bundle of DSP Processors and I am wondering if it is possible to route these into the signal chain of the kX drivers in real time?? If it is not yet possible then I will talk to some programmers I know and See what they think....again I must say though, these screenshots and architecture of these drivers is really cool. I read about these drivers before but I hadn't really had a look until now......Good Job Boys.

i think the dx plugins won't work in the dsp, as the kx plugins are written espcially for the dsp found on the 10kx chips… where as dx plugins are designed for programs that can decode them using the cpu of the system… it may be possible to create a wrapper, but the 10kx chips may not have the resources to process the basic routind AND the dx effects… i guess either eugene or max will be able to give a definite answer but for now i am guessing that only the kx plugins will work in the dsp

>>I can see that the kX drivers have DSP....
Actualy, the CL-cards are equiped with an on-board Hardware DSP proccesor. (the EMU10kx chip) kX drivers and software "merely" utilizes this DSP proccesor to it's full potential. >>and I can write More if I want..... Yes, but ofcourse only in EMU10kx's native assembly language. you can use the 'Dane Editor/Assembler' combined with the SDK for this. (both are included in the kX driver package) >>I recently Purchased thee Waves Gold Bundle of DSP Processors and I am wondering if it is >>possible to route these into the signal chain of the kX drivers in real time?? Those DX-plugins are 'Soft DSP processors' which only run on I386 platform in a suitable DX-compatible host application tasking your CPU. You can ofcourse route the DX app's input/output through kX's hardware DSP, but your dx-plugin will always run on your PC's CPU. So it's not possible to "load" and run that dx-plugin in the Hardware DSP, if that was your question. (same goes for VST-plugins btw) /LeMury |

This is very interesting, as I was wondering the same thing about using something like Steinberg Surround edition 2.0 the same way. Would doing so allow you to have say, custom DVD movie playback surround or game surround or even music surround in real time via these plug-ins, granted you would have some CPU overhead? |

yeh short of getting a mackie UAD1 and using plugins designed for that there will always be a CPU load

Yeah, I figured that. I just thought it would be cool to use some of the waves plugins in the general audio setup for my system. I asked this question before experimentation. I can get some pretty nice setups just using the DSP hardware.
