Crosstalk cancellation

It would be great if someone can write a plugin that does crosstalk cancellation, so that binaural recordings can be played through speakers.

crosstalk happens between wires and pcb tracks, so there is no real way to cancel them out w/o insulating the entire path

You misunderstand. I'm not talking about that kind of crosstalk, and I know what kind you mean as I build DACs and amplifiers as a hobby. I'm talking about the speaker crosstalk where the left year hears sound intended for the right one from the right speaker, and vice versa. A Google search on crosstalk cancellation will give more info on how sound can be digitally filtered so that two speakers without a physical barrier separating them can avoid this problem; the result is significantly better imaging for the right kinds of recordings (especially binaural dummy head ones). There are demos from companies like Sensaura and AM3D, but they are sound clips (or for headphones, or combined with HTRF as they are not for filtering recordings but creating better 3D positional audio).

ah as in the driver causing crosstalk, but my understanding is cross talk (right on left and left on right) is also caused by uninsulated wires
but in the way your talking about, im not quite sure how it could be implemented, maybe max could give mroe insight

I seem to remember someone wrote a dsp plugin for headphone use, it sent part of the freqs from one channel to the other and a few ms delay or similar. Can't remember very well... try a searchon the forum

miguel, you are talking about the exact opposite, crossfeed, which is for headphone use (for use with stereo recordings which often have too much stereo effect for headphone listening, as opposed to binaural recordings which are intended for headphones and recorded with a dummy head). With speakers you already get crosstalk as each ear hears all speakers, and you get crosstalk that shouldn't be there (even with stereo recordings intended for speaker listening). There are a few demos from companies like AM3D and a few others of crosstalk cancellation, but they are sound clips, not usable plugins.
I suppose I could try to write a plugin, but I've not done any dsp development so I was hoping there already was a freely available solution. Can you do convolution with the Creative hardware, or would that need to be implemented in software?

the hardware may not have enough resources to support convolution… but it's possible to write your own plugin, im' sure those with experience here will help you as much as they can
