??? Movielike Sound?

Hello,

kinda weird question question but in movies and trailers the music used has a much softer bass wich sounds more harder/powerful than it actually is. Right now im using kx, win xp and foobar. and i have my bass near the wall under my table and it may sound as powerful as the ones i usually in movies/trailers but then my walls are shaking and my neighbour might get angry although it sounds godlike

so if you somehow got my point. how do i achieve this effect? playing with the equalizer didnt suceed. so what settings should i use in the equalizer or do i need some sort of surroundplugin to achieve that?

the subwoofer(150w) can generate enough power but well i only want it to sound like that

if you didnt get my point just ask!

thank you in advance

I didn't get your point. Do you want to reduce the bass or increase it? In both cases you should use the graphic EQ and tweak it a little until you find the setting you desire. You can try with other EQ types - HP for instance where you can cutoff the bass at certain frequency.

well i want to sound it more powerful but by keeping it low i guess

just listen to specific movietrailers or movies on your pc then play the track as mp3 if you got that in your mp3 player

it sounds really different. id say it sounds more powerful but it isnt as loud as i need to go with my subwoofer to achive the same powerful bass effect without making it insanely loud

I think this is about compression.
Rerecording mixers (the guys that make the final movie-theatre mix of all components like dialogue, music & soundeffects) like to give music a lot of compression. A compressor reduces the dynamics of a sound, i.e. the difference between the loudest and the softest part. When music is not that dynamic, the overall level can be lower to give the same impact. I guess this is what you hear. To use compression yourself on mp3's ,
you can use a plugin like DFX on your mediaplayer. The 'dynamic boost' function kicks ass!

Actually DFX does a lot more than compression alone, it refreshes and boosts your sound. But I have to say that the 7.0 DFX is not as good as earlier versions, you'd best find an earlier version, P2P. Right now I better stop making free publicity for commercial software..
