Sad Audiosignal is distorted

First sorry for my poor english, but I would like to explain it as well as possible.

I have a Teufel Concept E Magnum (Full-active 5.1 System) that operates behind a Soundblaster Live 5.1 Digital Soundcard. If I route a signal direcly to the outputs the sound is distorted. I have to set a volume slider (-9) in the signalway to get a relative clear sound (its still not Hifi).

e.g.
If i play a song in winamp and set the volume in winamp to maximum the sound ist distorted. Then i set the volume level to e.g. 80% the sound is clear. The same problem happens with other audio sources.

Is this a normal thing (i not hope so) or have i made any mistakes by deinstalling the old creative-driver ?
What can i do do to get a very nice clear sound ?

Hope you've understand my problem!

Hi!

Normally the soundblaster´s output is at 0db max. so change the input of your active system that it can run at 0db (try this with an accurate cd-player output). If no help, check the output of the DSP with a peakmeter. If it shows a constantly high level while playing back, the distortion occures before the output. Check for plugins in the signal path and bypass them for testing. Be sure that you have no extreme EQ-settings or any other gain amplification to avoid distortion inside the DSP.

Hi!

@all: Sorry for writing in german, but TravelRec is from germany and its much easier for me to write a few words in german to tell him my problem. thx!

Hi again!

I understand. What´s with the output, are you using the rear or the front? At front out a headphone amp is connected between DSP and physical output. Try to use the rear, there is a plain OP-amp with exactly that impedance you need (47kOhm).

If any questions more: go to www.electricstart.de, write a mail via form and I will answer in german (give me some time, I´m a bit stressed these days )

Greetings!

Hi!
My Frontspeakers are connected to the rearoutput and its still distored. The sub and the center plays a distored signal too.
Meanwhile I think its the PCI-Bus or anything of the driver that produces the issue.
Is this possible ?
If I can't take a step forward ill mail you, thx for the offer.

Yep, no problem. Check your system again to see what´s wrong. BTW: have you uninstalled all creative drivers before? And if yes, are you sure there is no part of the old stuff running? Check it with DriverCleaner.
