Where to place a volume control

Hello I have a basic PROfx setup in the DSP. My issue is regarding VERY loud system volume and much lower volume for items such as CUbase CoolEdit etc...

My DSP is setup as follows:

One SRC module for wav sounds into channel 1 of MX6
One SRC module for ASIO into channel two of MX6
The ASIO module routed to the live out of the MX6
and then the MX6 main routed to Pysical out of K1LT.

WHat I think will fix the issue is to place a GainHQ module in between the first SRC module and channel 1 of the MX6. Is this a bad idea in terms of signal to noise ratio? If so, what would be a suggested resolution to this ear drum bleeding loud volume of my system sounds?

Thanks

Hmm, bit strange - first I would try to match the output of all different applications. Check with peakmeter in DSP the level of all incoming sources. Try to push up the level of cubase, CoolEdit, so that they have a output of max 0db. If nothing helps, set FXBus0/1 as system device and let other applications play on the other devices. Then put a gain between system source and MX6 and lower the level there.
