Need Filters Help

Hey Guys,
I apologize if this sounds like a stupid question but, I noticed that when I try to use any of the EQ filters (execpt the 10 band EQ), I see no level to either cut or boost the paticular frequency. I have everything working fine, but I noticed that my speakers, tend to get a bit bright especially around the 12-16KHz range, when their turned up. Now without killing all the top end, I want to be able to insert a Notch filter, and using the Q take out only those frequcenies, that start to bite when the system, is turned up. Within the notch filter or any filter, although I can adjust the center frequecy, or the Q, I can`t set how much I would like to either cut or boost that paticular frequency. Now please forgive me if I am missing something, but I don`t see another slider for cut or boost, so I don`t understand how I can use the notch filter.
Again I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but would apreciate any help.
Thanks,
soundguy_99

Then you need a peaking filter.

Hey Tiger,
My bad, I thought I tried every EQ, that must have been one only one I didn`t try although I wasen`t expecting to have to use a peak filter. My question then is whats the usefullness of the Notch filter without the gain control to control how much of that notch I want either boosted or cut. The Q controls how wide the Notch will cover, and the frequecy decides on the center frequecy of that notch, but you still need a control to decide how deep the notch will be, or am I to assume that notch will take those frequencies, right out, and you can`t vary the amount. Most sound systems don`t use a peaking filter as much as a parametric filter.
Anyways Thanks I apreciate the help,

Hi,

A notch filter will pass
all frequencies except those in a stop band centered on a center frequency (the opposite of the bandpass filter)

The peaking filter can also adjust the level of attenuation or gain within the filter bandwidth, the same way as a 1 band parametric equalizer.
