No no, XP of course is running (128MB EDO-SIMM). OK, itīs pretty slow, but reliable and I have not a single problem with the sound nor other system components. I use the machine mainly for software evaluation (AVR, you know ) and hardware / interface-testing. The thing has 3 LPT ports and USB and 2 COMs and so all what I need , finally ASynth and kX-3538 with ProFX and Audigy2Value with MIDI-upgrade.

Pretty amazing!
Ah yes AVR. And, do you like those devices?
You know you can use those to generate some 'nasty' audio too,. right?
I once designed a simple midi controled analog synth with an AVR;

Midi goes into the UART, Timer generates pulse train,
pulse train gets integrated over RC network + chopper to produce Triangle/Saw.
VCA, VCF+Log converter were all analog and triggered by AVR.
IIRC there were problems with getting accurate higher frequencies,
and with achieving constant amplitude on the integrator for all freq.
(well something like that)

Sounds cool, Iīve done some simple tests in that direction, but the sound was too nasty, specially the hights, so better a qualified soundchip will do the job, controlled by an AVR-device. But yes, I like these devices. Currently I have an analog MIDI-Controller bay with 16 knobs with AVR-core and for now I try to finish a Drum-Pad-Controller with 6 pads and 4 pedals to have a better drumming input device than the keyboards. All in all a very funny and practical solution. Thanks for the pointing on the devices once... I think I will release some of my experiences later on electricstart to give other users some hints too.
Sorry for beeing off-topic a bit.

That is weird since, in my design, the actual sound is entirely Analog.
AVR is only used as a DCO to generate the Pulse Train which is then entirely
in the analog domain.
So the final 'sound quality' only depends on the analog circuitry;
Integrator/waveshaper, VCA, and VCF.

Cool,..are you making the pads yourself too.. piezo stuff etc?
Anyway,...Looking forward to see the results.!

Ahh okay, I understand - only DCO and then (a lot of) analogue stuff, this makes sense to create good sound out of whatever kind of wave garbage you feed in . I need to do more reseach in this anytime. For now Iīm happy with kX DSP-instruments and vst-instruments and I do nothing live atm, so no need of hardware-sounding stuff. But who knows?!
The drum controller now works also fine, needs to be fitted to the needs I have, but works. The cool thing is, that you can run a simple program for tests and if you want to expand the machine, simply expand the program . The Pads are selfmade, yes. I took some piezos and glued them in the middle of some old CDs. After that I glued a damping material (rubber stuff) on the CDs and voila, touch responsible pads (so, velocity dependent)! The feeling, if you play with fingers and hand is quite cool, like bongos . You can also play with sticks (if you can), but this needs some testing, since I donīt have some professional sticks here. And finally you have 4 pedal-inputs to play bassdrum and HiHat or similar. I make a picture next time and give a link .

Have a nice week-end!

Cool!
I had made something similair but then I got in the (lucky) position to buy a Roland TD5-trapkit, so I left that project.
Still I plan to make a very small ergonomic bongo like 'tap' panel that will fit right above
the pc keyboard so I can quickly tap drum parts with fingers only.

It's a very cheap transducer device.
It turns vibrations into a voltage or vica versa. ( like buzzers)
It is therefore used in most regular drum pads.

Yep, piezos are cool and they have a very well reproducable vibration to voltage ratio. There are some more or less good types on the market. The things I used are more stable then the standard little things they use in telephones and are around 35mm in diameter.

Here are some pictures:

@LeMury: have fun with creating the little stand-by-the-key-tap-box .
@trev: what do you think ?

LOL, I have/use the same piezos. (I bought them at Farnell)

Nifty construction TravelRec!
Is that a serial LCD display or 4-bits parallel?
btw, Nice one with backlight. Expensive?

Damn, I think I stop programming and pick up my Weller solder Iron again:-]

Hi!

Itīs a standard LCD (HD44780 controller), connected via 8-bit interface, to have short transmission times, have enough ports on the ATMega16 controller free. Cost: 15.95 EUR, itīs a DIP version from www.reichelt.de (LCD 162 DIP), the simpler cable pin version is around 11 EUR. The same is available in blue/white design for 14 / 22 EUR. I think these LCDs are easier than to solder tons of LED segments and have a nice upload feature for own characters (like the note symbol ). And yes, sometimes itīs cool to solder a bit, I agree!

Yes, thatīs right, just lower price than others and fine quality of products (btw, piezos they donīt have unfortunately, bought from Conrad (www.conrad.de)) and normally very quick deliverance. Iīm quite sure they ship the components to holland. Look at the prices for AVR-controllers .
Greetings!

Drawbar Organ recompiled for 3545

For those interrested;
I've recompiled the Drawbar Organ for kx driver version 3545b.
Since I don't have CL hardware installed I am not able to test the build myself so just yell here if it doesn't work.

Re: NEW: 8-Voice Drawbar Organ

Lex... Does the Drawbar Organ include the Leslie simulator you were developing? I was hoping to drive it with an external organ via the line-in, but there does not appear to be a way of doing that with he current Drawbar Organ. A Leslie plugin that looks like the right half of the Drawbar Organ would be great. Of course, adding audio to the Drawbar Organ would work as well, but might consume more resources than needed when only using audio input.

Thanks for ALL your efforts!
