So after reading the news... on the Samsung s3 and 64gb sandisk chips....

I had been contemplating picking up a 64GB chip for awhile... because it's just awesome carrying around so much space and being able to utilise it... Specially now that I have something fantastic like this that I can take to a comicon and record a ton of 1080p content at my discretion.

So I did a little research trying to find specific makes/models and types of chips that were causing problems and those that seemed to be working.

I took a bit of a leap of faith since majority of my SD cards that I get my hands on are made by patriot... No one was sure of the model I happened to have access to.

Suffice it to say, I got the full experience of confusion and disappointment.

I usually do everything with the device off just to be sure.

So I shutdown, pull my 32gb, slid in the 64gb, fire it up and the phone showed "Preparing sd card" and then disappeared which usually indicates everything is fine.

Then I went into the phone settings and check the space.... 59GB free/total.

GREAT...

it worked.

Unfortunately, when I hit the screen sleep/standby button.... and then hit again to bring it back out.... the message at the top said "SD Card removed unexpectedly, preparing sd card, unable to prepare sd card"

Well that's clearly no good. Long story short, after screwing with it for an hour or more, trying different suggested solutions and so forth, formatting the sd card on a computer for specific allocation unit sizes and trial and erroring numerous other things. The card just won't work at all in the s3.

The way it recognized it at the start and then after a standby or power down it doesn't, almost seems like a lack of power or something isn't keeping it connected...

Sliding in the old 32gb card fixes everything instantly, no problems at all.

I happened to snag a Kingston 64gb card, which actually was cheaper... The same thing happened.

I really wish these companies listed what type of memory they are using for their product.

Either way... slapping both, using a SD adapter, into a few digital cameras, printers, etc...... all work flawlessly. It's clearly a fault in the Samsung S3, something I think Samsung really should get their shit straight on asap.
