Can you donate to get rid of the ads?
I was just wondering if you can donate to the site to get rid of the ads. Some forums have a paid subscription thing going on. Was just wondering if this site has one. I've been a member for a few years, just havnt really posted much.

its something we might look into. I would like to think however that our ads are actually useful to people. some sites have crap ads for smilies and all that nonsense. we try to not only make revenue but to deliver good advertising which might actually benefit you guys.
We made massive changes to our advertising strategy last year which im hoping many of our older regulars noticed. |

hell yes, some eyesoars that were present with the rotating ads and the garbage you had to deal with when the occasional ad would bring extra popups and/or activex or other crap along with it. I'm sure your life is much easier with these ad setups. I know I'm quite pleased with the change that had taken place a long time ago. I had sent a PM reguarding donations and where the donations button was (2-3 weeks ago? ), hadn't got a reply.

I don't like Flash ads, but as long as they have no sound and they are not trying to steal control (maximizing etc), then I don't mind ads. Plus some times I might find something I am interested in. I am suprised I don't see more games' ads here.
Porn ads would probably never appear here (either). I don't mind, in theory, of subscriptions (have with Gamespot, Gamespy and now eMusic) but after a while you start thinking how many of them do you really want.

porn ads will never appear on DH. and we run all our own ads from the server so there is never any spyware, popups, audio, malware, active X etc.
Flash can be annoying yes, but companies like the versatility of the medium - guess we need to make some sacrifices. Hey, am i being more friendly in here now? I know you guys gave me a lot of s*&T in off topic recently. |

Right im outta here 4 years waiting for porn ads and you go and destroy my hopes.
On a serious note I find the ads here absolutely fine. Visual studio one in the forum might become a bit tiresome but i'll be sure to let you know when it does . Users should realise this stuff doesnt pay for itself. One thought I did have and im not sure if it would be possible but I'd find it helpful if the ads were region specific for example the DriverCleaner lists at $9.99 would it be possible depending on IP or profile setting to show it in local currency. Ok on reading back to myself I realise that sounds a bit far-fetched but hey for some people currency/localisation can have a subliminal effect and could boost marketing and sales. |

yes Allan. you're being extremely nice.
the only ad thats a problem is that microsoft one. It STILL comes up after every post and its quite annoying. Plus it really gets in the way of threads.

![]() Is the donation option gone from the site? I can't seem to see it anymore. Regarding drivercleaner, it would be great if some other form of payment was supported. (credit card?)

may guad man, you turn your mousewheel twice and your completely passed it without even noticing it. i'd rather take an add like this, then to be loaded with popups and garbage address running through the posts (like intelitext which i understood was slowing the site down initially or just make it a little slower loading in places).. ![]() i actually find it quite fitting

I like the ads, its like driving to Vegas and seeing all the billboards on the way, unfortunate aspect of capitalism right? Marketing in various forms does pay for itself and on a site like DH, I am sure it gets results. I dont like ads either, and I like milk in my tea, and a foot rub, I know I can get two of those my way, but the other I cannot...such is life.

How do the ads work? As in, does ATI send you the ad & you agree on placement & how long it will be posted or do you work with them to create the ad itself (I can't imagine you do unless you cahrge for the creative genius also).
Basically I don't have any problem with them (except that one that we are all moaning about lately). And I have found them useful from time to time - I've clicked on em for sure. And I never really have thought you were being nasty Zardon. It's your site, you work on it more than anyone else (I assume - hell you could have a bunch of midgets chiained up in the basement doing everything for you while you sit on the couch eating bon bons and drinking cold ones for all I KNOW) and you've don'e pretty well for yourself with it so far, so that gives you the right to be nasty occasionally if you feel like it.

for the record... I've don't mind the ad's since they are keeping this site up.... and second if the donation thing is still up I would donate some money if my situation would allow... now if I recall right I've donated some money for this site long time ago ... and what I see they are spent the right way!
Ok I'm a bit drunk right now but I still mean it all! *tear* |

I don't mind the ads for the most part.
but that bloody one that ALWAYS shows up after hitting "post reply" is a PAIN! You can't even click any button to get it to go back to the forum. its obnoxious.

the only thing i see in regards to a post and the ads, is the ads re-positioning themselves to where they belong. usually its the top banner add. |

Gemini, that shouldn't be happening, if you can post your browser and any relevent extensions you're running on etc. Because so far i've not been able to replicant this.

First things first:
If you want to donate to DriverHeaven you can still do so. Just hit the button below, or donate through PayPal to Zardons email address: ![]() (It's set for US$) or zardon@driverheaven.net What I hate most are contextual ads. These are ads that are targeted to keywords on a site, and will pop up small info when you run over those words, plus link to the site sponsored. God damn are those things a pain in the ass. Not only does it slow a site down, but just scrolling over the keywords kills it for me. The worst offenders are the bastiches that put this crud into forums too. Bah. ![]() DH had them at one time on the main page, and got rid of them as they were slowing things down. As long as you guys leave that contextual crud off the site you can throw as much ads on as you like. BTW, that was a smart idea putting an ad right under the first post. Can't miss it, can ya?

oh christ, you said it man.
when all you wanna do is read a topic and you've got to try and find somewhere on the bloody page for your cursor that doesn't result in a pop up of some kind.. drives me nuts. I don't mind DH's ads at all, some of them have been fairly usefull in actual fact ![]() I still can't see the ad Gemini is complaining about though, and I've tried FF, opera and IE7 so far ![]() post a screeny of what you're getting mate, I'm confuddled. |

I'm using IE7 and what's happening for me is, when I click to go to the last post on a thread, I get ADs that come up over the screen and sometimes have to wait for up to 30 seconds for the page to finally load.
Imageshack is crapped our right now or I'd post a screenshot. The ADs that are showing up in the most recent instance is the thin blue ECS AD that looks like it's being duplicated on the screen. Then there's an XXX Edition AD between the two instances of the ECS AD. When I get home from work, if Imageshack is working again, I'll post a thumbnail link. So far, today, though, I'm not waiting 30 seconds or so for pages to load. But, I'm still getting a duplicate AD for the ECS one. |
