Not allowing 2 spaces between the period and the next letter

This has been bugging the FAUK outta me the last couple days. Why is it that when I type two spaces (the proper way to type) after the period it only shows up as one? I know this is such a stupid thing..... but when reading some people's posts it just is hard to read them. There are supposed to be 2 spaces after the period at the end of a sentence. I know this is stupid and BLAH but can we change it?

I've noticed that on every forum I've ever been on for years-- Must be a protection thing-- so someone doesn't do nut's with the spacebar or something?

HTML naturally closes up spaces
. . . . . . There is an increasing number of spaces between each dot
I douby that   - non breaking space is allowed
Wow! the HTML non breaking space entity & nbsp; does work! - but I can't seem to escapeit the right way to show it in full
-       - SPACE, the final frontier!

And I cant remember any of the ALT codes that come out the same as space

Why would you use 2 spaces after a period? Who told you it's the right way to type? Microsoft Work accepts either it either way so I guess it's OK both ways.

I have taken three typing classes at 3 different schools. This is the way we were taught, right out of a book. 2 spacs.

then you should have also been taught to run a spell check on "spaces".

Depends on the country and job you are doing. In the newspaper trade if we used 2 spaces after a full point (period) you would get your ass handed to you, it can cause problems in small column widths with justified text. goes back to the old days of em/en spaces, double spaces, orphans, widows etc (which no-one pays attention to anymore anyway).

On a further note, I dont see how on a forum, having an additional space would help legibility. For a start, hardly anyone would do it in the first place (you will notice some dont even use basic punctuation or returns!), so you would only find your own posts easier to read (for you), and secondly I personally have looked at this forum on around 10 monitors from 15" TFTs to 22 inch CRTs at resolutions ranging from 640x480 to 1900+ and I can read the text perfectly. Therefore try disabling cleartype or similar or a possible monitor upgrade.

if you wish to use more than one space in your posts then use HTML code
Code:
&nbsp

I belive thats mainly a hangover from the days of the typewriter where the actual ammount of space the space took wasn't that big. These days, using a decent font and layout, it's not needed imo

No, Zardon... I don't have a visual annomally... It's more like the words are just too close... Without the second space... Get what I mean......eh, forget it, I know nothing will change (not necessarily that it can)

Hey, we listen, thats why the feedback section is here, I just really dont see how adding the option for double spacing would solve your problem. As I said in the last post, you are lucky if most people even post a comma or a return. Then you would get horrible mistakes with three or more spaces etc, and the whole forum would look like a dog just threw up.

I am genuinely sorry you find the forum hard to read but really I dont see a problem with this at all. Its really your personal preference for double spacing after a full point, and ive shown you how to do it

HTML in posts, I wish! Oh, nm it does work!
See here:
This is a test.  And so is this. See, 2 spaces after the first sentence by using
Code:
This is a test.(&)nbsp;(&)nbsp; And so is this. (without parenthesis)
By the way, what other html tags can we use? It does say "HTML code is OFF" on the bottom.

It's not an HTML tag, it's an HTML character entity.

You can use any ones you want.
Here's a list of some other examples

You should be able to use them in every forum around the 'net

I was taught the same way you were Drive- I always just figured it had to do with saving space or something- And kind of got used to it. That's probably why I always put these stupid little "-" things at the end of my sentences when I should use a period. I do it without even thinking about it- But if I go look through my posts they are full of them.

/me blushes.

I have got to admit it is one of those things that has bothered me for a while too. &nbspI prefer being able to have 2 spaces inbetween sentences.

Yeah, I was taught to have two spaces after a sentence too. But I don't worry about it. If the forum removes the second space, no biggie, but I usually do type two spaces after a sentence by force-of-habit anyway.
