Question: User Groups?
ya know how you open up someones profile. .and on the right hand side there is usually groups.. or "this person doesn't belong to any groups" or something to that nature....
i've seen this on a pile of websites.... but i've yet to come across a site that actually makes use of it... What are these for? At first i thought they would refer to say.. Admin group/Mod group.. etc.... but that's obviously not the case. Craig, i'd suspect you'd have the likely answer and know... What are they for, and would they have an practical applications here?

User Class Specification
I've seen it used for what folks are knowledgeable in so members know who to talk to. |

so for example... for the KX projecct related to topics.... the ones people would listen to could be all grouped under a public user group named KX.... thus eliminating any chance of confusion for getting an more "official" answer to a specific question?
i would assume that if enabled, it would show up under the avatar which user groups your associated with... right? (or at least one of the main user groups your with)

They're usually public groups that users opt to join, so we could set up AMD, Intel, nVidia groups etc, that people would join if they're in that band camp, or CES2008 for those that plan to attend the show etc etc. Some new modifications make it into a myspace style profile area, currently it's not being used by us, and like you said not many sites do use it, but we may in future.

sounds interesting..
i'm not familare with myspace or facebook so any thing mentioned about "similarities to them" is over my head... sorry ![]() But i think i understand... so a user can decide what to join.. and leave at will ...that would be pretty interesting.
