System Specs

I think it's because they want to attract people to join the forums

. . . although I wouldn't mind if the min post limit were lowered

I have said this before quite a few times, but I guess ill say it again -- the competitions are set up this way to attract new people to the forum. Granted some spam is inevitable as alot just come for the competition, but some of these new people come to post to enter the competition and see what a fine forum this is and stay. With every competition we get quite a few new active members.

If I set the competitions to a 3 month membership limit it would be very stale.

Seeing as I have no SOUL....I guess I have nothing to lose.....what about adding a week to the 10 post limit......that way they have to search for something to post on and with having a whole week to do it in, maybe it wouldn't clog up with spam as much, some poeple are doing 10 posts in less time than it takes the average person to read 1 thread???

Just a thought from a Roadrunner with no soul.

Now if only I knew anything about graphics/drawing I could make a cool sig!!! A demonic Roadrunner walking the night!!!

I heard about driverheaven.net through the ATI Radeon 9800 pro competition. Otherwise I would have never found this great website. I plan on staying even after the competition. Ain't no spam coming from me and I bet there are many other honest people like me. If the competition would be set to a minimum 3 months membership the community would not grow as fast as it does and people would not hear about it. I think it's a great thing you're doing. Keep it up.

PEACE!!!

in theory thats a great idea and one i had thought about for a while during the last competitions. The spam is also quite inconvenient. The problem I have with this is that people cant even seem to understand the basic 10 post minimum rule so if I start overcomplicating things then it will give me much more work in trying to sort out who on earth has been here a week as well as sorting out the spammers, multiple competition enterers and 1 posters.

This way I just disqualify immediately all the people with under 10 posts and all those who spammed to get 10 posts/posted more than once in the thread and left.

I hate spam as much as anyone else, but in a week or so it will fade and hopefully we will have some new contributing members like masterd13 who will to our high quality member list on this forum.

We also dont have competitions of this size on a regular basis, maybe once every 2-3 months so it wont be an ongoing problem to this extent.

Thanks.
I did not apply for the competition yet but I'm planning on. Do the minimum 10 posts include replies or do I have to start 10 new threads?
Sorry if I'm a complete idiot but I did not visit forum often until now.

if you have 10 posts under your name, its all cool. I do hope some of you guys hang around after the competition and make some friends, and share some knowledge

should I start being a hardass and deleting all the people who posted this kind of stuff just to get into the competition, and being so blatantly obvious about it?

I cant force anyone to look around the board and to make some worthwhile posts, but I can certainly make sure they dont win the competition by spamming.

this thread is closed, if I see anymore nonsense like this im deleting it.
