The news archives
The news on DH is awsome- There is a lot of it and that is the way it should be- perfect.
Zardon, Dom, NewsFactory and whoever else post up all the news are all doing an outstanding job. Ok, this is the problem (a small one)- but strangly, when I look in the News archives I cannot sort by "date posted, or the order in which the news article was posted. This doesn't really make a difference if there is hardly any news, but when there is alot of news posts, and I don't get a chance to check for a while, they get spread out all over the place in the archive. I am going to paste a post I already wrote a while ago- It explains exactly what I mean. this is the post--> "There is no way to sort the list by the original date posted-- only the date LAST respnded to in the news post- If someone doesn't post a reply to a news Item it is way down the list in no time- If I want to look up a news story from last month or two months ago or even longer- It's tough because they arent dated that way or sorted that way- Just to be clear what I mean- these are the options you have in sorting the news archives: 1)-thread title 2)-last post time- (last time somebody posted a comment about the particular news article) 3)-number of replies 4)-number of views 5)-thread starter (name I imagine) there is one missing- that would be 'original thread date'. or 'original post date/time' sort- so you could sort them by when they were orinally posted- I think that would be the first thing on the "sort by" list. Or the default way they are listed. Just an idea. Maybe it woud be too much of a pain or next to impossible to do it- Inthat case probably not worth it" --In most, if not all archives I've ever seen, the "default" way to list the archive is by date or time of the occurance, in this case the news article original date in the order it was written. At least there should be some way to sort the archive by the order in which the news article was posted-- It seems like there is not a way to do it in the news archives here. If there is a way I am completely missing it. The original post is here-- http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...threadid=14168 I posted the second to last post in the thread. I just think it would be helpful to be able to sort the news in this manner, I realize it may be a big hassle or very time consuming to make that happen, in which case I understand it may not be worth it. But then again, it may be very simple to implement- I just don't know. |

I always thought that something like a "news for the last week" button would be useful on the frontpage.
Most of my Driverheaven reading comes straight from the frontpage, very rarely do I read beyond the frontpage info and most recent posts anymore, unless I'm looking for something specific or set a reply to EM me when a post is replied to. The site has just gotten too big and diversified to read EVERYTHING, all the time. It's a 'so many websites, so little time' issue, but I'm sure many do the same. Extended functionality of the frontpage would be a big help. ...not that I'm complaining in the least, mind you. This is still the best tech site on the net. |

So you basically want the news listed by it's relevent date. And not listed by the most recent post. More like W2S basically. This can probably be done. It is listed on the main page in order.
The only reason it's listed by last post in the forum is because it's in the forum. Those are the discussions about the news topics, and not actually a news board. Confussed? I am.
