I also may be interested. it would have been an easier way for us win9x users to share the latest ATI drivers since the ATI site was soooo slow.

I dont like ETG - you can't register nicks.
So UberLord could be anyone - you'ed have to check against the IP mask. Too much hassle for my liking

No they don't.
If you're that paranoid then use Mozilla's ChatZilla IRC client. It's open source, so if you feel it has spyware then take it out!

Personally I use BersIRC as its freeware and has loads of powerful stuff. Version 2 will be JavaScript based instead of Pascal based, opening the client to many more coders as JavaScript is widely used.

Shaith is on a distinguished road

Default Post Re: IRC/Spyware

No, there are a few distributions out there that are mIRC addons which actually have trojans in them. Most nameably, certain Polaris distributions.

mIRC itself is not spyware, nor does it contain any. However, an improperly configured client on an improperly secured machine, coupled with someone who doesn't know the first thing about IRC, can be dangerous. Don't type anything you're told to type. Don't auto-accept unless you've got an up-to-date virus scanner.

Common sense is a rare commodity in many IRC chat rooms. Make sure you exercise your own.
