"Driver Heaven"

I just wanted to bring up something I just realized that has been staring me in the face for the past year or so.

This site is called "Driver Heaven" but since we have discontinued DHZP drivers our actual Driver section is hardly visited compared to the Gaming, Off Topic, News, and Reviews sections.

Honestly, It seems like this site should be called News Heaven, Gaming Heaven, or Review Heaven.

I originally started coming here because of Omega Drivers and to get the hell away from Guru3d. I then was a beta tester for the DHZP.

I dunno, it just gets to me that reason I came to this site in the first place was totally thrown away. I remember when I would log onto a game and at least half of the people on there would have some type of modded drivers. Now no one knows what the hell I'm talking about.

I know though that a lot of sights take flak from Nvidia and AMD for redistributing modded drivers. But hell guru3d still does it (those pos bstrds).

I guess what I'm saying is "Driver Heaven" does not feel like a Driver Heaven.

Edit: Also, DHZP were the best drivers I have used to this day, hands down.

I still come here to the download page and get some things vs the site and I still pop into Omega's too.
DH has evolved, and as soon as we get some drivers optimized for Vista or 7 then they will join the compliment of those that have come before.
I remember the old drivers and they are still available for older OS's so the legacy componenet of the original name is still there, just that the site offers so many other things besides drivers.
This site goes through changes in personnel and content all the time, but some things remain the same.
I think regeneration and other old times still pop in now and then as well, surely the name shouldnt change unless they complete remove the other programs available.
And sh*t, there are some kick a** reviews and excellent f**king tech savvy members here too.
Unless Z pulls the plug, I will continue to pop in now and then, even in my mentally decrepid state.

Well im sorry you feel like that. Not sure what to say mind you. We offer ATI DH mobility modder which has had over 10 million downloads. im guessing we have helped a good couple of million people get updated drivers for their ATI powered laptops. We also produce Drivercleaner which has at the last count received over 18 million downloads in its various forms. The new ".net" version has proved very popular and we get a lot of sales daily.

We also have recently developed and coded Nvidia Mobility Modder for Nvidia users which works in the same way the ATI version which we hope will help Nvidia users do the same thing as the ATI users.

We also offer www.driverheavendownloads.net which handles over 2 terrabytes of data a month.

We don't mod drivers anymore as I personally dont think there is any need right now for "tweaked" drivers for ATI or Nvidia users - the latest offical sets are great (I can comment on that with a fair amount of knowledge as I use more hardware than most and the situation is not like it was 2-3 years ago). The latest modded sets I have looked at (outside this site) either all use laptopvideo2go tweaks or have some really dodgy code changes. As far as I know omegadrive is still here however...... We are also home to the KxProject who make some great drivers and are now even expanding into the Macintosh environment.

My answer to your complaints? No idea, guess we cant keep everyone happy, even if everything is free. If the reason you came here was just dhzer0point, then I guess you should leave? I mean that sounds logical to me.

Oh that won't be happening. Right now, I think this network is the best it has ever been. We have daily content, everyone wants to work with us. We are producing some of our best reviews yet. We offer loads of tools to help people mod their own drivers, clean them, and then download them from fast 100mbit servers.

I am proud of this site and all the other sites we now own in the Heaven Media network. Some people will never really be happy, but I know I wouldnt be if this site was the way it was in 2002, which was very limited.

Like most things in life, they evolve and change. I do what I think is right and we are continuing to grow, I look forward to the future.

Its in the network section in the navbar. We need to upgrade the server tbh, its getting hammered each month. should be still pretty decent most of the time however.

Not really a secret as such, just not directly relevant to you guys on Driverheaven forums. We deal with the public and companies on various other sites, all seperate from each other.

For the time being anyway.........

I also used to come here for the Omegadrivers and DHZP drivers but for a variety of reasons these stopped being necessary. Maybe it is a missed opportunity that most of us go to guru3d for graphics driver news but how is DH supposed to muscle in on that territory?

All it takes is a few modders to make their home in a forum and next thing you know that site is a hub for driver support. Zardon and the DH crew can't control the comings and goings of modders so it's difficult to build a site on that kind of support.

I visit HardOCP, Guru3d, Toms, Gamespot, IGN daily but DH is the only one that has the right combo of hardware news, tech reviews and gaming news all easily accessible; so while drivers aren't really that big a deal around here anymore I think it was a natural evolution to move away from that forum based support to content which builds the reputation of DH.

Which tools offer to let me mod the drivers I currently use on my rig now? Or even a guide to do so.

177.83

Also, what I am saying is there was at least a large focus on drivers when I started coming her and now the focus is more on reviews. I understand that things change and evolve. It just seems a little weird now that its called driver heaven when most the site is devoted to hardware, guides and game reviews.

I don't expect anything to change honestly cause it wont. It just seems a little weird to me when I think about it.

Mod them for what exactly? You see this is where I think you are getting confused. You aren't really actually aware of the driver tools on this site so you think we dont have any driver related topics. I am not sure how to answer this. If you want to mod them for your laptop then use our new nvidia modder tool, but if you want to "mod" them for the hell of modding them, then we don't have a tool for that. You can quite easily learn some of the "mods" out there by breaking apart some of the sets that other modders make, but ive studied enough of them to know, I wouldnt want any of them on my systems.

The focus front page is on reviews, but this is a part of the site I always wanted to focus on. We have DH mobility modder for both ATi and Nvidia, Drivercleaner and a few other applications. If you want "modded sets" like the old DHZer0point days, they broke up long ago because in this industry most of the driver modders are either kids or people who love what they do but get bored and move on. I could easily mod drivers myself and I would be quite honest in saying that I think quite a lot of the driver modders on the scene now don't even KNOW what they are doing. Running modded drivers is seen as a cool thing to do, but if you actually knew some of the tweaks you guys were running you would be surprised.

I personally dont think there is any need right now for the majority of modded drivers.

It just seems a little weird to you because knowing you as I do, you have this OCD tendency to ignore what everyone is saying in this thread, not read what I posted and just continue along your path. I mean no offense man, but you have been here quite a long time and im pretty aware of your personality. This is not meant as an insult, I am just being honest.

The funny thing is, right now we have MORE modding tools than we had in the Dhzer0point days. I mean even Omegadrive to a certain extent has lost interest and the pre-modded (tweaked) driver scene isnt what it used to be for a variety of reasons.

The whole driver scene is a pale shadow of what it used to be and I'm glad DH isn't a hub for graphics drivers anymore. When I go to guru3d and HardOCP for driver updates I go there for one reason and that's to see if the driver is good or bad. There's no actual support like there used to be on DH with Catalystmaker and Omegadrive and no one's opinion is really to be trusted. I wouldn't trust a modder these days with anything beyond adding your model into the inf...anything beyond that they don't know what they're doing.

It's just a matter of wading through 10 pages of "it sucks", "my 3dmark score went up/down 100 points", "Crysis IQ is awesome now!", "CoD4 FPS went down by 2" etc, etc. All this because Nvidia pumps out an insane number of driver revisions every few days with no guaranty of quality. Up until recently, most gamers had Nvidia cards so this is the way it's been. The old days are just that...old.

No offense taken. Your pretty much right on the dot.

I guess this thread is my way of being upset about the tweaked driver "scene".
Edit: And maybe cause I miss PG

I took a long break from computers for a while and when I came back things were very different.

Even though I should have stated it before, I don't have a problem with DH's path and I love the site it is now.

And its not a bad weird when I think about the site name, its more like a odd weird.

Like any of the big name companies that started off with a straight forward name for what they originally did and then evolved into something different but kept the name. There is no reason to change the name.

i've often thought of the lack of modded drivers the last cpla years. i kinda attributed that to possibly more complex drivers with the newer technologies, but IMHO good points are made when we talk of the quality of newer drivers. honestly i have never had any major type of problem using the CCC other than it seemed a lil slow and mem intense in its earlier days.

I also am a proud owner of a licensed copy of DC.NET and have used DC every time i changed drivers since i originally came around here lurking and gettn me some omega drivers since about 2003ish(?). I had to squeeze all i could out of that 9800XT i bought at best buy . For what its worth, i've even seen DC.NET on a few "SCENE" release sites.

DH has been a staple of my internet diet 3/4 of the time i've been online

Omegared's post was exactly spot on from what I see myself. and with regards to hobos post above, we get a lot of email correspondence from people who come to DH, thanking us for the tools and the fact they have been able to update drivers on their ATI laptop. We hope the same success comes with the Nvidia tool we just released. These tools are free and they are made to HELP people of all ages to bypass their laptop makers dated driver support. If you guys actually had seen the amount of emails we get behind the scenes then you would realise how important these tools really are.

This isn't even bringing Drivercleaner into the equation, this tool has helped millions of enthusiasts to fix, repair and keep their system running well.

I am afraid when one person says "DriverHeaven" isn't really driverheaven anymore, it doesn't really mean anything to me, because I know its not correct. You can't base this sites diversity or success on one modded range of drivers which lasted a very short period of time in the grand scheme of things.

This site will always be changing and adapting with the times, its the only way to keep things fresh and exciting, but we certainly won't lose our heart, because as long as im involved, the people always come first.

Maybe if some of the competitions gave away mascara or hair straighteners we would start getting more women on DH. There are plenty women out there who wish to become DH members but just don't realise it. It's a market DH does not tap.
