Avatars as PNG files and transparency

Is it me, or do avatars not allow PNG transparencies? I can upload them fine, but it turns up as white.

Is there a reason this is possibly disabled? I think it would cool for that to be allowed. I can't think of any harm from it.

Unless it's a VBulletin limit, of course.

Re: Avatars as PNG files and transparency

I will look into the issue and see what's happening. I don't think it's anything we've restricted. Could be a limit of vB as you say.

Re: Avatars as PNG files and transparency

I don't remember if mine is a PNG (I think it might be a GIF) but it does have transparency.

Re: Avatars as PNG files and transparency

Testing, seems to be working fine at present. Edit: Yup, both RGB and 8bit transparent PNG's worked with IE7 and Opera. (IE6 and older can't handle PNG transparency)

File used for testing:

Uploaded as Avatar and verified with those two browsers, and the same with an 8bit version of it.

Re: Avatars as PNG files and transparency

Ok thanks, well I think that's your answer then IEMC, it does work after all. IE6 does have a problem with PNG transparency, so it could be that if that is your browser of choice?

Re: Avatars as PNG files and transparency

I'm currently using the latest version of Firefox.

I'm gonna try it again and see what's up. Will post results.

And thanks, guys.

Re: Avatars as PNG files and transparency

After several more attempts, using mkk's image (transparency worked, by the way), plus going into my PSD file and resaving as a gif and a PNG, somehow the PNG finally worked.

Whatever, though, problem solved.

Thanks for the effort, guys

EDIT: Now that I think about it, it might be Vbulletin's resizing method. I swear the first few times I kept the size at 80 x 80, though.

Re: Avatars as PNG files and transparency

That would probably be it, as it wouldn't save it with transparency after resizing, maybe it also optimises for filesize as well which might have caused it.
