Yoyotech

I have been watching the yoyotech forums since they opened and they are pretty much dead.

Im curious to know Driverheaven's stance on opening this forum, what are DH or the community getting out of it? (I know yoyotech get forums and exposure).

Seems to me that there isn't much going on, such as offers, competitions or community interaction etc.

Re: Yoyotech

I'd like to second that. questions go unanswered and the yoyotech site fails to impress in a crowded market. I find it usually slightly off the mark with pricing and range (they don't stock Crucial Ram as far as I can tell, an odd exclusion). The site also tends to drive you towards what they want to sell with what you want usually buried within a few further links.

Initially because of it's links with DH I did visit the site when searching for hardware but have yet to make a purchase for the above reasons. I don't think that will be changing soon unless I see more forum activity or a DH incentive be it discounts or monthly special offers. Surely thats the whole point of a Yoyotech section or they could have just bought some advertising space on the front page.

I feel almost guilty for being so negative, come on yoyotech give me a reason to type some good stuff.

Re: Yoyotech

Because I'm a highly unlikely customer (local shopper) I would find it practical to be able to filter out the Yoyotech section from my list of "posts since last visit". Not a simple feature to add I'm sure, but 90% of my activities on any forum is checking out the new posts list. Anyway, they seem like a nice bunch of people.

Well I think the point the OP is making is that there is very little activity in the YoYoTech section, so the section appearing in the new posts list shouldn't be a problem. You could mark all the forums read, and then from that point they won't appear unless there's new content from today. As it stands there hasn't been a post in there for 5 days.

A better assessment of that particular forum would be made by noticing the activity of those who moderate it. Most of them haven't been active for nearly a month now. If DH moderators were that inactive, they'd be gone.

Re: Yoyotech

If it bothers you, why don't you just minimise the section?

You could, but I think he'd rather it be something of use, rather than something to be hidden.

Anyway, I have checked out the Yoytech site a few times and it doesn't impress me really, their prices aren't the best and I trust places like OCuk, Saverstore and ebuyer more.

Sorry

Re: Yoyotech

There is no reason to apologise to me or anyone else IMO. If you don't want to shop there, don't! One of the great things of capitalism!

Re: Yoyotech

Yeah i've noticed that even though support questions are posted in the yoyotech forums it still ends up being us members that answer the questions instead of yoyotech, in their forum.

It could still be saved if they just came back and gave us something worth reading and worth some interest, Price cuts, competitions, polls, mod ideas, anything.

Re: Yoyotech

If they are a sponsor, then of course they should keep their section until they are not, but at other forums, I've seen guest sections come and go, with an intial flurry of activity, then tumbleweed.

A shame, but a partnership needs both sides full commitment to work. I hope we can find better partners in future
