Hi,

Basically I'd like you guys the members, to tell me what you want to see on DH in terms of features on the forums, anything you think is missing, a link that's hard to find, anything to streamline the site make it better for you.

Any input is welcome, and all suggestions will be considered.

If you miss a feature that over the years has been removed, or your second favourite forum to DH has a feature you'd think would work here I'd like to hear about it.

So if you've got anything on your chest you'd like to air about the site in anyway.

I don't have a second favoite forum... DH is it!

Anyways.... I don't know how much interest there is but if there are any guys out there that are into rebuilding and modifying older systems I would be interested in swapping ideas. Home brew modifications, (yes some of us do still solder things ) I/O contraptions, and workarounds..... things like that.


I know there was a thread not to long ago about collecting old video cards.... that would fit into such a catagory also. I realise there is a section about the older OS (Win2K, 98se, etc) but rarely is there anything about the older hardware. (PIII & early P4, Athlon XP, Dual processor systems, stuff like that)

I may be alone with this, but I actually enjoy hot rodding these older systems and finding new ways to utilise them. I found DH because of the KX drivers which is still an active group.... gotta admit that some of those creative cards are pretty old, but still in use and doing rather well. I'd just like to see something similar for other hardware.

If there's no interest that's understandable... everybody is after the latest and greatest gear and that is the main focus of DH the way it sits, but it could be of interest to some members.

If not, that's okay... DH is still the only forum I come to every day just because it's a great community!

Yes , I know there is plenty of images uploading sites but most of them erase the pics after a while. Though this may slow the site server and demand much more space but you could give users a limit for total reserved space differs according to rep power.

Its an interesting way to do it. We never did it before mainly because it bloats the database and causes additional load on the servers for such a huge audience. I will have a talk behind the scenes with Craig and see what the possibilities are.

would it be easier to setup another upload data base for that and then just link to it instead of uploading directly through the forums... as from my understanding, quite often the uploads and whatnot are usually messed up with the forums software is updated.... I mean the forums are quite large as it is.

Anyone remember when tastyweat made a DHuploads server available for anyone to upload to.. and then link?

Course i would suspect that uploading large files would be prohibited.... each user would be granted whatever for space and if they want to uploading something else, they'd have to remove the previous.

I've seen on the Zero Punctuation/Escapist forums they've got like a badge/medal system that displays in the user's stats panel where their post count is different little achievements like befriending a certain number of people, posting a thread with x amount of replies that sorta thing.

That could be pretty cool

but majority of those are all just fluff and don't really provide anything useful to the forums imo

My only suggestion for now is to make the "arrows" next to the forum thread that link to the newest post, larger. I find them too small.

I've made the icon slightly larger on the XFX skin if you want to try that out, if you want it larger than that it will require a re-design as the triangle wouldn't look right much bigger than I've made it. Hope that helps. I'll roll it out to the other skins if you think it suits.

I too use DH as my only forum (the others just don't compare!) and like fiddling with older (and thus more disposable :P) systems. I'm not sure how they could be better accomadated within DH though. Do you mean articles or just a section in the forum? I'd probably utlise either, and I think most PC fans have an ancient system gathering dust in the corner that they like to fiddle with occasionally. I've got a K6-2 (overclocked
) and a Northwood (dell ).

I was thinking of attachments as well but as you mentioned and many might not truly appreciate it but the DH database is already stressed with the daily traffic.

Some positive points on this in regard to images is they can be automatically thumbnailed in VB which will take care of those annoying "way to large" images posted on Heavenly Visions. Secondly hosting images like that from the forum database actually speed up the forum for the user as opposed to waiting for these images to loaded from a secondary server source like imageshack or photobucket.

The negative as mentioned is more load on the DH server unless a second server location is allocated for this and I think that's what Judas was getting at.

I had something regarding another subforum as well but for the life of me can't remember what that was right now. Will post back when I do or have any more ideas.

three things actually:

1. a car forum/sub-forum. there are a couple of other tech based forums i visit (DH is still my favorite one though ) and they have a car forum/sub-forum (sub-forum to their off topic forum)

2. certain ads that don't use up insane amounts of resources on our PCs, like that current BFG one.

3. fix the title bar so it works right

Actually I did have one thought which would be cool.

DH could have a user review section connected to all hardware and game reviews, more or less like user reviews on amazon or newegg but connected to our forum accounts that way you could see all the reviews from a member.

Can't say I gave the idea much thought so it could be kinda useless

I see forums that choose best (member , mod , thread) every month based on their activities and useful posts during that month, they put their names at the top of the home page till they choose others in the next month , you know that encourage guys to do their best.



Another One Could DH organize a competition for winning copies of DH cleaner aside from the monthly hardware competitions ? just like what you did with I7 .

This feature has been implemented in the latest version of vBulletin. The Social Groups have been revamped slightly instead of a single wall for messages you create discussions and you can subscribe to each discussion, but not the group as a whole yet.

I'm not sure when we'll be upgrading just yet, but you can look forward to this feature.
