Attachments enabled on DH.

Hey Guys,

After some feedback and discussion we are running a test and research phase on attachments.

Yes that's right we've enabled them!

Currently I've restricted the image sizes to 256k (1280x960) this should be more than adequate for the purpose. Those of you with Photoshop should use "Save for web & devices" under file menu which will save a much smaller copy of images if you find the size limit restricting. Each user is restricted to 50MB, which is around 200 full-size images, and a lot more if you don't use the full 256k per image.

You can also attach txt files, pdf's and word docs.

Let me know what you think, whether the restrictions are ok, whether it works for you etc.

I'll also be looking at enabling the Album option, you can see an album example on my user profile http://www.hardwareheaven.com/members/craig5320.html on the right side, and profile picture and signature uploads.

Thanks

Re: Attachments enabled on DH.

Good stuff guys and I think the sizes are more than adequate. Anything requiring more space the member can use one of the free hosting services available for any image or file format.

The thumbnails I like and the album idea is also cool

I can't think of any formats not shown that we might require to share small things on the forum which is the idea of attachments in the first place. Lets try one out this is from the AMC show at the Royal Military College here this summer my buddy Bob's car

Craig, admit it, the only reason you are doing this is to have people take a look at your profile!!!!!!!11111

Albums should be enabled for everyone now, along with signature image uploads.

So, once a user has reached this limit, is there a way to remove much older images w/o needing to go back through old threads and deleting older images?

I'll have to double check the album permissions, they're enabled for users, but it's possible they're also being hidden from view in another place as vB can be funny like that.

Staff can prune attachments so if that becomes the case contact me and I will sort that for you.

We've initially put the restriction in place just to see how it goes, we're looking at options possibly more storage so we can offer unrestricted storage. We don't want everyone suddenly uploading all the pictures and realise we're ran out of space fast. So while we monitor it, it's restricted.

Thanks
