Often i like to scan the bases and find threads to reply to..

The problem is alot of people have a problem if the last reply date is from 2003,etc..

Why is this??

There is nothing in the rules that says you cannot reply to ANY THREAD if you have something relevant to add to the topic..

The NEW members havent seen a thread with a last reply from 2003 so if someone replies,WHY LOCK IT??

I feel so restricted and offended on MANY SITES because people get bent out of shape and act like its the end of the world if an older thread is replied to!!

Arent there better things to worry about??

I have found stuff on this site for example i wanna reply to but im worried the staff will lock it thus making my reply worthless.....

Something to think about....... DATES DONT MATTER (As long as the link is still valid in the thread (If there is a link) and there is no unformatted text, etc)

Re: Scanning the bases...

close your eyes, deep breath, count to 10.

Ok, I understand what you are saying, what threads do you want to reply to? I think the reason a lot of our team close them is because bumping a technical support thread from 2003 might not be even relevant anymore.

if you go into more detail as to what you a: have replied to you feel shouldn't be locked b: a thread you want to reply to but are concerned will be closed.

We can look at it mate.

Pretend a lovely swedish lady with a nicely oversized chest is giving you a big hug right about now. Then reply.

Swedobear. K, just had to say that. You can just link to the older thread in your newer thread. Snap back to swedish-lady-giving-hug-reply-jutsu.

As Zardon mentioned any specific older thread that has been closed by staff can be reopened with a valid reason. As Callandor mentioned you can link to an older thread in a new thread as I did on the one for my AMD system.

In most cases a member replying to this type of thread will usually experience the following scenarios:

Technical Forums

1) Posting to an older thread which never contained a solution

- If it never provided a solution years ago posting “I have the same problem can you help?” isn’t going to provide a salient solution. The members are better off starting a newer and more detailed thread of their own.

2) Quoting/Asking a member a question that hasn’t replied to that thread or in most cases the forum at all in several years.

- Why ask a question of someone who is no longer here? What is the sound of one hand clapping? Once again, these members are better off starting a newer and more detailed thread of their own.

Off Topic

These fall into 2 categories perhaps you can expand on yours in the first quote Bro. Feedback is good!

1) Posting to an older thread as a new member trying to fit in.

- This usually resurrects things people have forgotten or don’t care about anymore or it would be an active thread. All members old and new have the option to participate in the active threads or start one of their own.

2) New member spamming on old threads to raise post counts for contests (needs no description)

Re: Scanning the bases...

Well actually in that case I do feel that thread should be locked, that was about a web based mac simulator in 2003. There was no discernable conversation in it and you easily could have just posted about it again and gave your feelings. You would actually find that people might respond more than they would otherwise if you gave your own views and started a good conversation about it.

Incidentally no one is getting mad, if the moderators are closing threads which are relevant and good conversation is flowing then I will want to know.

Hi Mate... I like Mac Daddys discription of detail...As you know after you PM'd me after i closed the thread you listed...

Id just like to let you know i closed it due to:

A) It's Age (Including the last Reply)

B) Bringing back to life a thread from the opening poster can not reply for the obvious reason.Even the only person who replied to the thread has not posted anything for 5 years as time stands.

So the chances of the last poster responding is slim.Im sure you understand why i closed it.

But be assured i have only closed Old threads that have had no replies for a couple of years or so...Even though i have seen a few threads closed that are only a few months old..

Be assured you did not post it to anger any mod (Me in this case) i just find it pointless..

It must of taken much longer to find the thread compared to creating a fresh thread on something you want to share with the dh members.

Just got home from work Bro and I agree with Mig and Zardon on this particular thread.

Reason I am replying is because of the last part of your post no one on staff is angry in fact we appreciate you taking the time to bring this up. We will be keeping a closer eye on this and if you have links to any threads that you feel should have been left open PM them to me and I will review them personally.

We are here to help so everyone reading this post speak up if you have an issue all feedback is welcome and helps us grow !

Re: Scanning the bases...

Opening up a thread that was six year old and with only one reply in the same year...It hardly made it a popular thread to begin with.

I'd understand your point about Pointless if the thread had 2 or 3 pages of replies to read through... Its still pointless and was a waste of time bringing it back from the dead.

This thread is closed - we explained the reasons why and if you disagree then there is not much else to say.

If it happens again for anyone else and they feel that particular thread should have remained opened then post another thread.
