I don't write or receive too many PMs and I was a little surprised tonight when I noticed that I have one in my inbox, but that surprise was nothing compared to the shock I felt when I opened it and saw that it was Craig informing me that I had missed an e-mail in which he had notified me that I'd won the Silverstone Strider 600W PSU in the competition that'd closed on Saturday (things like this are really enjoyed best when they are unexpected
). Therefore, I wish to thank the people from Silverstone for the gift as well as people that make DriverHeaven for teaming up with the leading hardware manufacturers to the benefit of us members (benefit which includes, but is not limited to competitions such as this one), on top of all the content, time, help and good will they provide us through reviews, articles and forum posts. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I also congratulate Takaharu who's won the main prize, the Raven RV02 case. ![]() P.S. Expect unwrapping and installation pics when the package arrives, the manufacturer can be proud of the 5 years old 360W PSU I'm using at the moment, but it's time I retire it.

Re: Thank You, DH and Silverstone
Time for an update: the package has arrived!
Also, the nice blokes at the customs made me a nice surprise by charging me €40. Anyway, expect to be bored by some unwrapping pics soon.

Re: Thank You, DH and Silverstone
I tried to see how they came up with the number, but the more I looked at the customs report, the less sense it made. The customs was only around €12, the other 30 was VAT and the basis for calculating the VAT was the value of the package plus shipping costs (which I don't know how they came up with, as they were obviously covered by Silverstone and weren't written anywhere on the package).
![]() Anyway, that's not important here. What's important is that I finally received the gift and this is what it looked like (pretty much like a box that hasn't been treated too gently is supposed to look, a little dented around the edges, but mostly retaining the original shape ):![]() Upon opening, I found the box smaller box in the middle of a heap made of a sheet of black plastic. I was rather surprised that it wasn't protected any better, but after closer inspection, I found a series of cushions in there as well. Unfortunately, only one out of five was still inflated. Still, the box containing the unit looked fine and I really liked the looks of it as well as the fact that it provided all the info about the unit (out of which I was particularly impressed to find out that the MTBF of the PSU was 100,000 hours at 25C under full load ).![]() This is how the unit was stored inside the retail box. No styrofoam, but everything was tucked in rather tightly and I suppose that the cables provided some shock absorption. ![]() Apart from the unit itself, the box contains two informative brochures (a brief but clear installation manual in ten languages and with lots of pictures and a booklet with all the technical data you could imagine, including how to make a ripple/noise voltage test circuit), two sets of screws (ordinary and thumbscrews), cable ties and all the cables and plugs you could hope for: separate 4 and 8 pin motherboard cables, 24-pin connector with detachable 4-pin part, a whole bunch of 6 and 8-pin PCI Express cables, a couple of SATA as well as a pair of cables with molex connectors (both of which had a floppy connector at the end), all sleeved. I think that it's a safe bet that you could power any PC built in this century with this PSU and not need a single adapter.

Re: Thank You, DH and Silverstone
I thought that a couple of "before" pictures would be in order, so here they are. Apart from humble specs of the old unit, you may notice I had to find a 20 to 24-pin converter in order to be able to use that PSU with this motherboard; also, PCI Express connectors are not tucked away in a corner, there aren't any, it's that old (but has really proven itself to be reliable).
![]() ![]() And now the "after" pics. The installation couldn't have been simpler, it's a modular unit so there are no excess cables to make a mess and get entangled while things are being put together and all the "ports" on the unit are marked very clearly so no one should have any problems getting everything plugged in correctly. ![]() ![]() That's it. The unit is working nicely and I'd say that it's a little quieter than the old one (which shouldn't be a surprise, it's a single 13.5cm fan versus a pair of 8cm ones) and I'm really happy with it. Once agin, I thank DH and Silverstone for this great gift. It's always nice to get a present and, as you may imagine, a new PSU was the first thing on my upgrade list, so this was just perfect.

Re: Thank You, DH and Silverstone
Thanks for the nice wishes, guys, especially SeraphicSorcerer on wanting to get me a Raven 2.
Well, I was probably the last guy in the world to buy a white case to begin with and that was 5 years ago (I bought it together with the PSU I replaced today), so it's hardly fashionable. Still, it's big (almost too big for what's in it now) and sturdy and it manages to hold everything together so I guess I'll be keeping it for some more time.
