Nick change
First of all, pls. note i have searched for a topic in which there is the discussion of nick changing. Since i didn't come across nothing, i find myself in the position to make a suggestion to those who keep the forum: clean the name database more often, smth. like a 6 months period should be fine. The main criteria for those touched by this setting is the ones who have an account here since the begining of time & yet they didn't post once.
To link the aforementioned idea to what i particularily want, i kindly ask to have my nick changed to chrisTian. The user who registered this nick has created the account before me & yet he didn't post anything - link If i got into this subject the wrong way, i can only hope one should see at least the good intention in my idea & after that proceed to next step.

Re: Nick change
None of my business, but with 12 posts since May 2003 I think it is very funny to ask for this.

Re: Nick change
Ooo, pls. give more details, you +9k poster. Should i wait until i reach that mark to ask that question ?
I thought it is more logical to ask a nick change than to create another user to suit my needs. I've read the rules & i didn't see that this forum is against nick changes. If so, then pls. delete this account. After all, i have only 12 posts since 2003. ![]() A signature with a picture of 600 x 400 which eclipses the only row written is smth. to consider changing - in my opinion, of course.

Re: Nick change
The irony is just too good.
You didn't just ask for a name change. You asked for someone who has very few posts or none, to have his account deleted so that you can take it. And you have 12 posts in 7 years. It's freaking hilarious.

Re: Nick change
BlueMak's got a good point, Asking for favours usually requires putting a little something back into the community. And we're not talking just 1 burst of activity and the occasional thread a year to have a nick change.
Don't get me wrong Craig might do this for you if you want, But personally i'd ask for more activity and contributions first. |

Re: Nick change
There are 2 things:
- i proposed a database sweep to take place once a year. This sweep cleans all the accounts older than 6 months & with ZERO posts. (pls. read my first post, not BlueMak interpretations). - i asked for a nick change. If item one would take place, then i would have item 2, of course. Even if i don't have a nick change, i see that my first proposal isn't even worth reading & replying. I don't like to post just a line into a thread, in order to reach x thousands posts in 2 years. I prefer to read much & to speak rarely. This is not a justify for the fact that i had created this account when i was young & when i was in a spree of creating accounts on every forum i encountered. Thus the lack of activity, since one cannot be present in more places at once, with same results. (Heisenberg principle modified). I must say that a if i had known this nick change would be so troublesome, than i wouldn't have spoken at all. With these being said, pls. ignore as until now the first post & also this one. I will be present on DH forum with my nick which remainds me of another days & that's it. PS: i have made use of your option to NOT see the signature & avatar. Now everyone is equal in my screen & i can watch the posts more clearly. PS2: i don't see the request for a nick change to be asking for favours. As already mentioned, i didn't see anywhere that DH is not supporting the policy of nick change or that is completely forbidden or subject to consistent activity or is there another criteria upon each a nick change can occur or not.

And Yes i have had a name change here also,Most of the old timmers here know who i was. But im also sorry to say that you have no right to dictate on a user name you can use... Quote:
If thats the case i wonder what is the opnion about myself,I currently have the the highest Post Count here.. Then why does a name change matter ? I think the point of the previous posts,Is that no one knows who you are to begin with. Last edited by MIG-31; Mar 2, 2010 at 10:40 PM. |

You're completely missing the point, Even if your opinion is short it's often worth sharing it to get feedback on it. 14 posts in the best part of nearly 7 years doesn't just say lurker to me, it says inactive. And if you ask me there's no point changing the username of an inactive member because it won't be used. It's like lending money to someone you'll probably never see again, You just don't do it. Also, Database pruning would seem to make sense but from my experience running vBulletin forums it's never been a particularly stable or precise tool and tends to do a lot more harm than good. Which is why i went and installed an addon that removed individual accounts after x amount of days/weeks/months ect. However that is irrelevant. |

Re: Nick change
You guys are taking this way too seriously.
Xen_chris, your points were interesting and noted. However we rarely delete/alter old accounts, even if they appear to be inactive, for a great number of reasons. First and foremost, it is against our policy. We are not (and never were) against people using accounts just to read the forums without having to actively participate. We are not going to delete/alter any account if there isn't a serious reason for doing so. And a nick change is not such a great reason. I'm afraid that you are stuck with the nickname you have now. I don't see why you worry about it anyway, your nickname is far better than most already. |

Re: Nick change
Grace thx for your kind words.
A change fm xen_chris to xen.chris is allowed, i believe. Pls. do it this way since both Christian & Christopher are taken.

Re: Nick change
Sorry I'm wading into this one a bit late!
I've given you the name you just requested. Nick changes are allowed at the discretion of me. We don't give users the ability to do it as it can end up very confusing when members are constantly changing names etc, but I'm happy to honour a request if I see no problem with it. As for clearing out accounts, we don't do it, never have, never will; and certainly not so someone else can have their name. Thanks Craig |
