the poll on the home page

i think i've voted for optical mouse at least 20 times now...even while logged in.

is it counting my attempts at stuffing the ballot box or is it just broke?

Well, maybe I might make it so that only registered users can vote .......

Nah - the current setup works as well as. I don't want to add more complexity as it would slow down the front page a bit.

Actually, I'm seeing the opportunity to vote again even though I voted previously. I think it should be showing the Results of the vote rather than a chance to vote again.

Isn't that what you were pointing out, Sinjin?

Thats how it does work.

If it doesn't it means the cookie isn't being stored. This can happen if you're running a firewall/privacy tool that blocks cookies. I know for a fact that ZoneAlarm Pro 4.x and Privoxy 3.x need to be changed from their default settings to work properly with DH's cookies - for both my poll script and our forum.

OK, thanks. That very well could be why I've seen the opportunity to vote again. I just installed the McAfee Firewall in the last day, along with McAfee VirusScan 7.

Nasty product imo

Do you get logged into the forum automatically or not out of curiosity?

I have no problem with the autologin on just about all my forums. The only one that's been a pain is Rage3D, and that's been an overwhelmingly general problem.....but looks to be fixed now.

I haven't deleted any of my cookies, I'm able to autologon the site without any problems, BUT, I'm getting yet another chance to vote on the speaker poll on the front page.

I meant a cookie on ur PC, not our HTML!

Try using mozilla
If you can preproduce the problem after voting, goto Tools->Cookie Manager->Manage Stored Cookies
Find www.hardwareheaven.com in the list
And then check to see if the cookie mentioned in my above post is there.

I don't know how to check stored cookies using another browser

Uber,

That's what I'm referring to. In IE6, I select the Tools, then Internet Properties. From there I click the Settings button under Temporary Internet files.

On the next screen I select the View Files.... button.

With the next screen open, I select the Search option. I run a Search using 'uber' as the parameter. Only the one I referenced shows up. It's looking through all my cookies.

Thats not going to find it.

Under IE 6, the file will be called cookie:username@www.hardwareheaven.com/
(Change username to your XP username - in my case it's uber)

Copy this file to another location
Edit the file
Look for the line starting with uberPollLastVoted and tell me what number appears underneath it

I just ran a Registry Cleaner program (EasyCleaner from Toniarts) because I had developed a problem with a program that would fail to load. I uninstalled the program and then did a Registry Clean.

I just now came back to DriverHeaven and once again I have the ability to vote on the game consoles.

My poll script doesn't read the registry - it's impossible.

That program shouldn't clean cookies either.

Could you tell me what the number for uberPollLastVoted is again in the cookie please?

With the voting available to me (I haven't re-voted yet) there is no uberPollLastVoted in the cookie txt file.

OK - something is clearing the cookie. That would have to be some program your end as no-one else is having this problem. Someone else did have a similar problem and that turned out to be their personal firewall stopping cookies.

Could there be any correlation to checking the 'Offline Content' when one Deletes the Temporary Internet Folder? I check that each time.
