Irrelevant members

Ok over the last few years I've poked fun at those members we get that give us broken english intros (no offense to anyone that does not speak english as a first language) and then disappear or might ask very vague questions with no response after. Then some guy jamesblunt2000 started rezzing old threads with a link to a blackberry unlock site in his signature.

Is there anything we can do to reduce or eliminate irrelevant new posters? Not being unfriendly... just becomes useless threads and posts to dig through. I know its not easy and this can happen on forums.

I don't know.

Maybe a minimum post count before you can necro a thread more than a week old?

Or perhaps a minimum stalk count before you can post at all? :P

Those aren't very sensible ideas. I'd be interested to hear any other suggestions though.

I'd also warn that sometimes (very, very rarely) people who start off with annoying irrelevant thread necros go on to become semi-decent members as they learn how to behave on a forum.

Everybody has to start somewhere, I reckon my first post was probably spam and look at me now!

We'll always take care of spammers, as we have done with the jamesblunt fella, so just report the posts and if we haven't dealt with it already then it will be dealt with.

As for the hello, goodbyers, I've adjusted our guest messaging system which now tells users who wish to introduce themselves to do so in the introduce yourself topic.

Perhaps if you guys were more friendly they'd stick around, Blibb's can't you put a mask on or something? you're frightening away all the newbies.

I really love how these boards work and I'd like the mods and admins to keep doing their job the same way as ever.
