For the last few weeks it was really slow, like at least 5 to 10 seconds for each navigation. Every time. No matter what. Now it is basically instant. Like it was last year. Whatever you did made a big difference for me.

I have to concur with this. Things are very snappy now.

I only have one question at the moment: When I click on the icon to the last person's post....like I just did for BWX232....just before I get to the thread I see a very quick display of Zardon's new signature image....the lady's eyes. That's happening for me every time I come to this thread.

EDIT: OK, now that I've added my own reply, when I click on my own 'last post' icon, I get right to the page.....but it's now a new page, so that may have something to do with that quick signature display.

LOL, I notice that sometimes too about Zardon's sig image- I think it has something to do with the order of which things are displayed on the page in the coding-- Like maybe flash comes first or something? Then it goes down to where it supposed to be- which is out of your view and down to wherever it is in the thread... But that's just my guess. I actually know nothing about anything

Could it be due to the fact that Z's signature is a fairly large file? It takes longer to display under normal circumstances, so, if it's on the page we're going to, it will take a few seconds longer to 'bypass' it than others?

I was thinking more along the lines that it is a flash animation- and there are only a few flash animations per page-- Actually only 2 that I'm aware of (Z's sig being one of them)-- but that's just a guess.

I think it's just a flash thing, and it's just something that happens, it's not a problem.

UberLord will become famous soon enough

LOL - I can't remember the last time I purged mine in either IE @ work or Mozilla on the laptop.

I limit my cache to 20 MB. Whenever I experience WEB pages loading slower, that's the first thing I do is purge the cache.

thats much to low dyre, try 100-200 mb, you will be reloading images and graphics on a continual basis with a cache that small which will slow you down on many a site.

I've bumped it up to 50 MB. I'll see how this does for a few days. But, when I went to change it, my total cache was just over 16 MB. In my way of thinking, there's no reason to reserve space for the TIF that can be used for other purposes.

What about where it askes you when to check for newer versions of stored pages in IE6? It defaults to automatic. - I never knew what "automatic" meant exactly- automatic could mean every time, or on a schedule, or almost never... Microsoft doesn't feel the need to explain as usual

Anyway, the other choices are Every time you start IE, Every time you visit page, and never- It seems like all that "checking" would slow things down too..

I set mine to 200MB and it seems fine, but I'm always looking for a slightly faster tweak.

Automatic checking is similar to checking every time you visit the page, but allows the browser to do some pre-checking if it has the time. This is the default option for those versions of the browser that feature it.
