Big Grin Nearly went into withdrawal

I know the CAT 3.8s were greatly anticipated, but, it took a few hours for me to finally get back onto DH.

Glad to know you're all still here!

Kinda strange and partially funny to have two of the most known driver discussion sites (Rage3d and DH) bork out always when new ATI drivers are released..

Maybe there would be some room for improvement so that these kind of outages on pre-planned events could be avoided? Users of mentioned sites are the only ones who suffer from the outages in the end.

Yep, there is room for improvement - donate to the site so we can afford a new server Thats really all there is to it at the moment, afaik, just the server getting loaded down too much during the CATALYST releases and sometimes going down.

We have problems because of the greatly increased traffic.

Tosh is right about how to improve the situation. We can't just snap our fingers and make things better. Our current server is as tweaked as it can be, and we reach the limits of it sometimes.

Also, users aren't the only ones who suffer, there are also staff members who have to get the server back up and make sure it's working properly.

Well, as I've stated before in some other thread, I would donate for valid HTML/CSS and support for slow connections (non-bloat content, meta included).

Why? Because those issues take lot less resources to deal with (money, manpower, time), have positive effect overall on the site speed and thus to user experience and re-use existing resources better (hardware and software). Also the changes above would benefit all users, which would not be the case on new hardware with same old visual layouts (would benefit broadband users more).

Until such happens, my Visa is waiting..

It will come when we switch to new forum software, but in the meantime there's way too much that would have to be changed with the current software that it's not worth doing.

selective donating? thats a novel idea. well I guess while alot of you people continue to do that, then the users (like you) will be waiting (just like your visa) when the server is overloaded

in the meantime we will do our best for the fastest and most stable possible service with what we have.

Why not? Donating for hardware is very overused cause and gets hidden behind the scenes, so I have decided to donate on more visible causes.

We don't need new hardware to run the software he's talking about, just the software Andrew probably has in mind when he said that is still in RC1 state, and we will not deploy non-final software on DH, so it will probably be a bit more time yet before it happens here.
