query about no. of members

I was under the impression that DH was nearing the 50,000 members mark...

However... If you go into the members link in the top right hand corner and then go to "top 25 posters" (which actually lists all members in rank order of posting) there are 1559pages of members - and at 25 members per page (suggesting that the final page is full)

1559x25 = 38975

could be my mistake... maybe the thing was we are nearing 40k members... meh - just a little observation of mine

I dunno if banned members show up in the member list.......

they do indeed.... and anyway - I don't think that there are 10,000 banned members

its people who join up and want to view the forum but never have any intention of posting..... they havent verified their email addy, still members but they dont show up.

I believe that member list only includes people who confirmed their account through the confirmation email sent at registration (basically what Z was talkin about), and members listed for the ->50k number is registrations, and userid includes every registered member, including banned ones and deleted ones, in the total.

Zardon, what is your take on allowing people who sign up to Driverheaven.net just for the sake of entering a contest like the nVIDIA one going on right now? Can a guy with 1 post win the contest??

Formerly, we required 10 posts for someone to enter the contest, but they didn't have to submit entries - they simply had to post in the thread to enter. With these contests where they need to submit content to win, I think that the 10 post requirement has been removed because they are contributing in a meaningful manner, beyond simply posting "Enter me in the contest". I could be wrong, so ignore me if Zardon says differently, though
