Front page is still slow- Yesterday I couldn't log on at all.
I thought you guys made it so the ads load last- then the page would still load, then the ads would be the only thing that hangs.. I know this has happened before, and that's what they did to fix it - as I remember it worked quite well.

If the front page doesn't load and you are desperate after the news on it, head into the news forum which also lists them. Only problem with direct linking to forum is that you are generating less ad revenue to DH.
Maybe DH should prevent direct linking to forums and redirect users thru the main page? It could help with ad placements.. |

It's the ad servers holding us up. I can make it go faster for Mozilla and Opera users, but IE breaks with the white page

Just curious as to why the Front Page is handled differently from the pages beyond it? If I link to the forums, I get immediate access and can post and reply while the ads continue to load. But, the front page, when there's a problem, won't show anything other than the upper main heading, and the radio buttons, until the ads complete.

yes as I said I was hoping the issue with the ad servers would resolve. its a little frustrating when its out of our hands, but I did notice some more sites on the same ad company servers were struggling at the same time, so I knew it would get looked into and was not in this case a problem on our servers. if a problem last longer than a day or 2 then I start to worry.

The ad company have responded with a deep apology for the problems over the weekend, they are putting in place further steps to hopefully stop this from happening again.
thanks for your patience guys. |

hopefully the situation will improve, its just as frustrating for me to see our server coping fine and the ads from another server slowing it all down. I guess we will see how it progresses.

Does the DH contract with the ad providers have any recompensations when their services cause problems? If not, I really really doubt if they have any incentive to prevent similar problems in future. The actual customers of ad providers are the advertisers, not the ad hosters like DH, which means they only need to keep the advertisers happy.

thats an interesting if somewhat niave outlook.
they have incentives to keep us happy in the fact that if they continue to supply ill performing servers for ad hosting, about 10 large tech sites will get another ad provider, its logical they not only need to keep their advertisers happy, but the sites serving the ads. not much point in having advertisers if their means to advertise is no longer available. anyway im privvy to information I havent posted here, so im pretty much sure its correct. discussion over, any more problems occur on this site then open a new thread. |
