It happens to me too..
I'm guessing.. the server is being hit too hard and they stop people for awhile. I know several sites that do that. Wincustomize.org is one. Either that or routing issues like you said.

i've had the occasional server busy..... but a simple refresh works... it only happened when the cats came out..

for over a week now DH slow
not sure what the problem is, but for well over a week this site has been very, v-e-r-y slow, and I'm talking like 28k modem slow, and I have cable!
other sites, large ones, load right up in a couple of seconds, this site has been averaging about 12 to 15 seconds just for the home page to load, then if you want to go any where within the site, same wait, or longer. previously this site would load right up, no wait at all..I'm curious, what's up?

I have no idea whats up, the site has generally been very fast (apart from some related DOS attacks, ad problems) so its either a routing issue to your computer via your ISP or something else.
We are also getting alot of hits........ but is certainly not generally "28k speed", thats not server related. |

only happens with DH
I just ran NeoTrace, not sure what to look for in the map, but I live in Salem Oregon. the trace goes to Eugene Oregon, then north to Seattle, back to Eugene, then to San Jose, Ca., all in a blink of an eye, then on to Dallas, Tx., but it takes a second or two to register there, then the green line goes out in to the gulf of Mexico and ends with a question mark?

As ive previously explained on many occasions the server has to cope with this load as well - so if its a little slower than normal which it is right now, just bear with it. It took me 4 seconds to get into this thread from the front page and server loads arent excessively high. I plan on moving the main site to a dual processor setup next year so if you want to help with this, then donate or click some ads or intellitxt links front page. |

Thanks Craig nice to hear you are enjoying the site - hopefully the wonderful community here help alot of people - we have some fanastic members, ive seen you posting lately and its nice to see some new active people posting on DH ----- and your comments arent taken as complaints, I know its slow and its frustrating at times, really this server is at its maximum output, and while its got a nice fat pipe it could do with a CPU upgrade. I hopefully will do so in the new year with as minimum downtime as possible.
I cant accept credit card, im not a business, so only paypal or snail mail really. if you want to send something PM me and we can work something out. anyone else who cant afford a donation, keep clicking the ads ! |

sighs.
I think ive explained everything. its either temporary cases of 1: routing. 2: the server load 3: cpu cant cope 4: too many hits 5: ISP. or all of the above. right now its perfectly fine here, everypage loading in 2 seconds. server loads are UNDER 1. line is 70% of T3. |

not a complaint, just informing
I'm on Comcast cable, have great connection...to load DH.net takes about 45 seconds today, as it has for past four or five days. to load espn.com takes 3 seconds, other large sites 3 seconds or faster.
the slowest site to load that I visit recently is themexp.org and only takes about 8 seconds. even when new Cat drivers come out and the site is busier than ever with people loading up looking for the download, the site still always loaded fast, but not lately. just observations, not a complaint, no need to respond, already see what is being stated as possible reasons. funny how once we get use to a 2 second load time, how 43 seconds can start to bother a person, but we are always in a hurry, want every thing faster, and faster. like right now...I clicked on "Submit Reply" and while I was waiting for it to post this reply I had time to reread what I wrote, find an error, click on "stop" to stop the page from loading, correct the error and then click "Submit Reply" again and let it finally post the reply. * hoping Zardon doesn't sigh again

ok for the possibility this thread is going to keep going on forever im going to close it. any site problems, ad errors or problems which we will need to know about please start a new thread.
ive explained in detail the site is slower than usual due to the thousands of hits a minute/omegas drivers and popular articles we have but you still all seem to be telling me its slow when I already know it is ! Anyway if the site is taking 45 seconds to load then it must be a routing issue, its taking for me between 2 and 15 seconds maximum a page and the bandwidth is under the limit. the cpu is struggling in phases with the hit rate, so all you can all do is just smile, think of your christmas presents and bear it. the server cant physically do anymore, its maxxed to the hilt. until I upgrade it, this will be a recurring problem. the site has expanded beyond whatever I initially thought it would be. from being hosted on a shared 500 meg plan with ventureonlines. to the dedicated t3 line / 3 server network it is today. Scary to think its still not enough, eh? Hopefully it will be upgraded soon. Sorry I cant be of more help, but there is nothing we can do to get more speed from it ! merry christmas ! |
