If pop-ups annoy you that much, I'd recommend using another browser like mozilla with integrated pop-up control.

There again, quazi, if we don't avail ourselves of the 'pop ups' (which are actually 'pop unders') then DH loses money. It's better to have DH with the ADs than no DH at all!

I get the pop-ups on the DH homepage too. I use a pop-up blocker to get rid of them.....well, except one, it's a pop-up advertising a pop-up blocker. It doesn't show itself as a seperate task in the taskbar, so I can't select it to be killed by POW! <- the pop-up blocker I use) It doesn't bother me too much, at least it hasn't redirected me or changed my homepage or anything.....yet.

About the only way I can think to avoid those pop-ups right now (if it REALLY bothers you) would be to just set your bookmark to come directly to the forums and bypass the DH homepage altogether.

It does kinda stink to have to deal with them pop-ups at all though. I usually just avoid sites with pop-ups (when possible), but how can one avoid DH?

I DO run Ad-Aware and Spybot, but they aren't preventing those pop-ups at all.

The sp2 idea sounds good, but I think I'll wait until MS releases it officially.

I'm sure Z or one of the other mods will get it taken care of sooner or later.

I use opera as well awesome browser. The whole pop-up thing I was getting at work may have to do with spyware or malware installed on the computer, it's a public computer so who knows where those people go and what they do. I've got to say I just use Spyware and Ad-Aware and keep my hosts file up to date, and no ads bother me practically anywhere. It's rather simple to block the ad-servers you run across and once you've done it you don;t have to worry about strange things happening. DH does need the Ads I can understand that and have no problem with em usually just the past couple days have been crazy. I dunno if it's the ad server for DH or perhaps the ad server serves other sites which it does use to install nasty scripts, spyware, etc, then coming here it activates that cookie or script and spamerific batman.

Must admit, even with my popup blocker switched off, I dont get pop unders/ups that often when visiting dh. only about once every 5 visits to the home page and none of them have ever done anything like change my homepage or ad things to my favourites.

I havent either, and I use IE alot to check ads, forum responsiveness etc. Thats why I rely on the members to help in reporting any issues.

Make a donation, use Google or Mozilla, or...there's really nothing you can do. DH has to have
some kind of income to keep the place going. I imagine the number of hits they get, the size
of their database, and their bandwidth usage/quota is sky-high.

I would donate, but don't have or trust paypal. Any physical address for a donation?
(check/money order).

Personally I use Google and have 90% of my active X and all Java disabled.

our database isnt much short of half a gigabyte, for the forum alone and a few gigabyte for the driver database - this isnt the issue really we have gigs of room its the bandwidth which can reach a total of a few terrabytes a month or more. and yeah its unfortunate about even having to use ads but I have to keep it running somehow. we have some dedicated members who donate but it just doesnt cover the costs. Anyway when the ads are working right its not to much hassle really for anyone. Its just the popups recently that have been screwing up.

ill pm you my address if you are interested in a mail donation. thanks.
