RE: Fastest Rig on DH Competition
Why aren't we useing pcmark 2004 too? pcmark2002 isn't even supported anymore.... If anything we should include both scores but pcmark2002 is ok but a bit outdated....
why don't we include other bechmarks? like aquamark and GL Excess? in the scoreing... (don't say becouse of faked scores lol i know someone is thinking that but you fake scores in ANY bechmark we allready use. But if they fake them thier scores don't add up it's easy to spot) (just thinking out loud)

I have been wanting to ask that question for a month but never did. Thanks neon. I dont believe there are any issues with 04 at all. Not that I'm aware of anyhow.
Last week when neon posted the fastwrites on/off thread was really the first time I ran benches in over a month. I'm jonesing here. Need to compete again!!!

Well, alot of thought went into which benchmarks were going to be used. We were already using the 3 that we are presently using, and it was working out just fine. I am not really a fan of PCMark 2004. Many people have been able to make a few changes and get a higher/inaccurate score, without being alarmingly high. Also it doesn't show very much information unless you buy it, and we only want benchmarks that are free. By using the PCMark 2002 you are getting 3 scores that have to be averaged. With the newer CPU's, memory and HD's that are on the market, these scores can vary wildly depending on what components you are using. With this in mind, the benchmark is usable for anyone on DH, no matter what system they are using, to see how they stack up to the current leaders. As for using other benchmarks, I haven't really seen any that are mature enough yet. Many of them are very easy to manipulate scores on, as I am sure that you are very aware of. Hopefully with the next releases of several of these benchmarks out there, we will be able to use something a bit different.
There are alot of benchmarks I would love to use, but due to problems of being able to verify scores, they really aren't feasible. It would be nice to be able to have a "gentleman's contest" of sorts. And many of us here on DH do this already. What I mean is where we get a new system together and post our scores or screenshots of our scores, using different benchmarks. But due to the huge audience and attention that DH receives, there is always going to be the person that wants to cheat. For this reason, using benchmarks that have been well used here on DH by many of us, makes it much easier to spot the scores that "just dont look right". There will be some new benchmarks used in the near future, as soon as new releases come out and are tested by several people here on DH. And as always, if enough people request something, it will receive due attention and consideration. After all, the contest is for the DH community, and as such we will do what we can to make sure that the contest is viable for the "majority" of the community. Sometimes familiarity is your best defense. Roadee

I agree with the PcMark04 and it not having the enough info to produce a realistic result... (free is a must as well).... however the latest patch does solve alot of those hacks... (if not all)...... I was wondering about GLExccess the most though..along with aquamark.....although GLExcess is fairly old now (patiently waiting for version 2.... *drool*)..... i figured it probably have the most attempts at hackings..... What About Flashmark?

We are still researching different programs that will except the Raid array configurations and the higher cpu's which futuremark seems to have a glitch when registering the scores in versions 2003 and 2004.I have tested both on my rig without any luck as far as registering my harddrive scores...and sometimes not even registering my cpu.

I am waiting for the new GLExcess as well...
The contest is new in a sense that it reaches more people here on DH. It is impossible to make everyone happy, so it is best to always shoot for the majority. When trying to come up with an improved contest, there were several things that had to be looked at. Will the benchmark work on low end and high end PC's? Are the benchmarks reliable for verifing scores? Is the bench mark free? The number of benchmarks used is a time issue really. It takes alot of time to verify the scores of 20 people entering a contest on the same day. So having 5 or more benchmarks to make sure that all the scores look accurate.......also takes up ALOT of time. I will work with ANYONE that wants to enter the contest. If someone is having a problem with getting a score on futuremark.....I will come up with a way for you to enter. Until alternative benchmarks can be adopted, we will have to make due with what we have. If any of you would like to make a poll of your favorite benchmarks.......then please feel free. If you want to start a thread asking for opinions on a certain benchmark.....then please do. Just because you aren't having issue's with a certain benchmark......doesn't mean someone else isn't. But remember.......the contest will always be evolving to new hardware and benchmarks. If you have an idea, make a thread on it and get other member's opinions, do your own testing as well. The contest is for YOU after all
